My Unique Situation...

Hello,
I am currently a sophomore in HS and am enrolled in all college prep classes (non AP or Honors - you will see as I explain later). I have an A in all my other classes except Geometry - will a B in Geometry affect my chances into getting into UC Berkeley? I am more of a Algebra person rather than a visual person (proved by having the highest grade in Alg. 1 last year).
In addition, I have not enrolled in APs or Honors because last year, I had fallen ill and have been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Furthermore, despite being sick and missing days from school, I was able to achieve a 4.0 both semesters...will UCB understand why I didn't take any APs or Honors this year and think of my 4.0 w/ sickness as a very positive thing?
What are my chances based on the info I have provided?

BTW, I will be enrolling in Honors and APs next year and the year after.

Thanks.

I am in the same boat, I am enrolled in a few honors and freaking out. Although, I have straight A's. I plan to take all AP/honors classes the next years of HS. Berkeley is a very hard school to get into so don't get your hopes up.

Don't worry. B's will not kill your chances...just make sure the cumulative GPA is high enough, but don't slack off and get a high GPA from easy courses. As for your illness, I would say that getting a 4.0 despite your condition would usually be looked upon favorably.

This is something your GC can address in the GC letter. Don't worry.

If you have ONE B - you will be fine. If you start a trend of Bs, that won't be so fine. Stop worrying and do your absolute best.

And besides, if my assessment of your situation were the opposite, and I said you are screwed, would that change your approach to school at all? Probably not.

Bottom line: do your very best, don't try to have a very good social life, have fun/be passionate in your extracurrics, organize your time well, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, prioritize!

I hate topics like this. A B in your sophomore year? And you think it will kill your chances?

Give me a break.

amen, fandagoya

its bragging in disguise

Don't worry. Keep working hard, and I'd nearly bet my life that you'll be okay.

The OP is talking about UCB. There is no guidance counselor letter.

Get on the UC form and search UC gpa formula. There is a specific formula which includes gpa and SAT scores. You do get weighting for APs but only up to a certain number of classes. Most of the posters on this thread are not responding in relation to the UC system.

Yawn. Same topic... different week.
Don't worry, you'll be fine. Just get a 4.2 Weighted GPA. Heh... and a 2100 SAT score.
