How many other people have had to use either one of these and ended up finding it maddening? I took a math class that used it and while it was helpful at times, it was annoying. I also took a computer class that taught you how to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. We used MyITLab. I already knew how to use these programs, but I couldn't seem to do things the way they wanted me to and it made me throw my computer out the window and go to the office and cuss out whoever had a hand in the creation and release of the software. Has anyone else had that experience. I got a B in a class I would have gotten an A in otherwise.

My computer teacher in high school was a coke addict and he thought calling the cops on his prostitute for stealing his cocaine was a good idea. I learned more from him than I did in my college class with a program created by Pearson.

Does something seem wrong there or has everyone had troubles with those programs, especially MyITLab?

I actually found MyMathLab really helpful. It seemed like a great way to practice what the professor taught, and if I didn’t quite understand the concept and didn’t know how to go about a certain problem I could just click on the “Help me solve this” button and it literally walks you step by step and then gives you a new similar problem. I also like it because there’s a practice mode where you can get an unlimited number of similar problems for a particular section for extra practice. It also generates section quizzes and chapter tests to help review for in-class tests and quizzes.

I think MML is initially hard for some students because some professors do not put up the optional “sections” that go over how to use the features of MML. For example, they may assign problems from a section that has graphing, which can be confusing and annoying if the student has never graphed in a basic manner on MML. However, there is a “Learn to graph on MML”-type lesson that the professor can unlock for the student so that they become a bit more familiar with the graphing process.

I used MML for the first year as the homework for the math class I was in. The next math class professor also used a math book by Pearson, but was going to assign problems from in the text rather than mandatory MMLs. He did, however, allow those students who did have the software to use the courseID to do MMLs if the student so chose. I did use his courseID to continue doing MMLs on top of the textbook problems he assigned and it helped tremendously. Often times I would find myself doing the MML first for the section he taught to really solidify the concepts and processes (using the “Help me solve this” when needed), and then do the homework from the book, which help me build confidence being able to solve the problems now without the professor, my notes, or the “help” button on MML.

I’ve never used MyITLab, but I do know they have a MyEconLab and MyStatLab, which I hope I am able to use in the future for a Statistics and Econ course I will need. I especially think MML is good in conjunction with problems from the book.

I used MyITLab for my intro CIS class class. I remember it was extremely picky when marking up and grading the labs. You had to follow the steps exactly to get all the points. My teacher knew this and gave us multiple tries to turn the labs into MyITLab so we could maximize our points.

I used MyMathLab this past semester, and I agree that it was pretty helpful. If I had used this for Pre-Cal back in high school I wouldn’t have found the class so freaking impossible. The “Example” and “Help Me Solve This” were great options. I found it frustrating when we didn’t have those options for the Calculus portion of our class and had to fumble through the notes or the internet.

I completely agree mymathlab is driving me up the wall i have picked up smoking again (after 8 years) because of it. schools should not be relying on software to grade students work. i would happily drive 3 hours a day to take math classes that don’t use my mathlab. i have learned absolutely nothing from mymathlab except an extreme loathing of mymathlab. my grade should not depend on what seems to me to be a lazily made bit of extremely over priced software
