Hey, I'm interested in applying to Penn, but their admissions webpage is horrifyingly bad! There is no information on recommendation letters and the like. I know I have to fill out the Common App and the supplement. Could anyone explain the process in a clearer manner?

Do I have to create a MyPenn account to apply? How?

You use the common app with the penn supplement. Everything is pretty standard. There’s a part about rec letters on the admissions site, just pick two teachers. You’ll get your Penn Portal after you apply.

You have you counselor submit the same stuff (s)he sends to all the other schools (2 letters, transcript, his/her letter, school report, etc…

You submit the common app and the supplement, send them your ACT or SAT scores (if SAT, two subject tests as well) and then they will send you a Penn Portal to track you status and eventually, your decision.

Thank you!

Could you send me a link to the info about recommendation letters? I’ve been searching all over, but can’t find where it says two and all the other specific information…

Are there any special rules, like name and birthday on the outside of the rec envelopes?

“Recommendations from guidance counselors, headmasters, and teachers, considered in concert with your classroom performance, give us a more subjective evaluation of your work. They provide a perspective that may not be evident from mere grades and scores. These commentaries are quite important, so it is best to find persons who are well acquainted with your work and potential. It is also helpful to us, and beneficial to you, to obtain a recommendation from a teacher in the area in which you think you might like to continue your studies.”

I’m just confused because they don’t give a specific number or tell whether they want you to use the Common App form.

Two minimum and yes use the common app forms.
