myths about OCU's music program

I am an aspiring vocal performance major, currently in the process of deciding which colleges to audition for. I have heard that Oklahoma City University has an outstanding classical voice program, but that the graduate school dominates, and that undergraduate students don't get many opportunities to be in productions or to study with great teachers. I have also heard that this is not true--that undergrad students get plenty of opportunities and attention. Does anyone here have any experience with OCU's music program--if so, what is it like for an undergrad at OCU?

Musicmajor, you might want to cross-post this question on the Musical Theatre forum. There are many MT students/parents there, as well as at least one parent of a student who started out in MT and is switching to VP. They may be able to get some first-hand information to you.

musicmajor,
My D is an MT major at OCU. The MT and VP students take voice from the same great teachers. All MT majors are classically trained, and their junior recital is required to be classical rep. Undergrads are required to audition for every musical and opera (both MT & VP majors), and they are cast in the shows. There are grad students who also audition (I assume they are required to, also), and they do get a lot of parts, but I have never heard that the grad school dominates. The upperclassmen have more training and experience, and I would hope, after shelling out all that money, that they would be better than they were as freshmen, thus deserving the parts that they get. :) This is the BM degree. I don't know if they offer a BA in music, but that would be different teachers.

musicmajor, I could have written musicmom's post. Ditto to everything.

My S just finished his first year at OCU and was cast twice. I know there are some VP programs out there where very few undergrads get cast, but not at OCU. You may be aware of some of these programs, if not, PM me and I will tell you what I know.
