Wondering overall how you felt the BM in musical theater or vocal performance met ALL 3 elements of voice, dance and acting? How many total productions are done each year? Do student participate in crew positions? Are there outside of school performance opportunities? Is there a NY showcase for seniors and if so how is this funded? Meeting all requirements is it realistic to graduate in 4 years without summer sessions? Can you combine the vocal performance and MT degrees? What is the average class size? Is there a cut or jury system at all? Looking forward to reading some responses. Daughter is a junior currently, making final decisions for auditions for next year!

I do not know answers to all of your questions - but have learned a bit more about the ocu program.
- Acting will now be with the BFA acting program and has been an area of emphasis/improvement for the college. Voice and dance have always been strong and continue to be strong. They may do their own showcases in LA.
- There is a NYC showcase for MTs but you must audition for and be selected to participate. I don’t know how it’s funded. They also have a great program for freshman-seniors called OCUNYC where they offer all sorts of master classes, opportunities to meet casting directors, working alumni etc… And those classes are free each spring break to OCU students.
- I think they do about 6 shows each year, but MTs are also encouraged to audition for the straight plays, operas, etc…and there also seem to be other student directed performance opportunities and things like OCU Stripped in which you can take part. I think some students have also been cast at the Lyric Theater and at other community venues outside of OCU.
- It seems a number of MTers also double major in vocal performance.

Thank you vvnstar. Did you get these questions answered while visiting the campus? Or was it thru another way?

I do not believe OCU has a cut system and I know that you are able to double major in Music Theatre and Vocal Performance. A couple of my D’s friends were accepted as MT/VP majors.

We are visiting soon and hope to get all of our questions answered as well.

djexpress: Our daughter has friends who are current students at OCU who were able to answer some of these questions for her. (2 are juniors, 1 is a sophomore and 1 is a freshman). I have to say they are all extremely happy there which has made a big impression on us. Our daughter decided just a few days ago to accept her spot at OCU in the MT program and is absolutely thrilled! Perhaps our daughters will be classmates!

They sure could be!!
