Is it possible to get into N.U.in directly from Early Action or do they only admit from the regular decision pool?
I believe there have been NU in admits from early action - look at last year’s threads
Yes many EA’s and some ED’s were offered NUIn. For ED NUIn was not binding.
I assume you realize that you cannot apply for NUIn.
@TomSrOfBoston I do realize that. I was just wondering because I know someone who was deferred EA and then offered N.U.in.
Here is last year’s EA decision thread fron CC:
In the past, Northeastern has used NU.in to shield students with lower ACT/SAT scores from being averaged in with the rest. This strategy works since it doesn’t have to report the scores of incoming freshmen who aren’t on campus. It raises NU’s rankings, and gives a chance to full payers who wouldn’t normally get in.
Same reason why they don’t accept SAT scores from international applicants, who typically have trouble with the English section.
So, if you really want to get into NU.in, try lowering your SAT scores.
Northeastern now offers NUIn Spring. If you are offered regular fall admission you have the option of going abroad for the spring semester. It is a trial program to see if there is interest.

if you’re set on traveling abroad your freshman year, you can always think about opportunities other than NU.in. For example, this is my first year, and one of my classes is going to Europe over winter break. There are also these trips called Dialogues, where you spend a few weeks in another country with a professor or two, taking classes abroad. Just some other opportunities to think about if you’re set on studying outside the country your first year.
@whitespace How do you know which classes travel as part of their curriculum? (meaning regular classes like the one you mention, rather than the Dialogues) The Dialogues btw are fabulous - my older D did 3 of them.
@twicemama The honors freshman seminars include travel. The fall one offered includes a trip to Ireland and I heard the spring one includes a trip to Costa Rica. Of course for an extra fee.
sometimes other honors classes include travel - one year a seminar on religion went to italy during spring break -
This information will be made very clear in the course information when you go to register (especially since they require extra money)
@twicemama - Yes, like the others have said, it was in the course descriptions when I signed up. They make it very clear, and although they don’t have the exact fee, there is a (very large) waiting list in case kids need to drop out during cost constraints. I’m glad your daughter had such a great time doing a Dialogue - I’m planning on possibly doing one during Summer II.
(And yes, I’m in the Ireland class - that’s how I know I’m traveling.)
