I do not like my name very much, in fact, NOT at all! It is always pronounced wrong and I constantly get made fun of. When I go to college, I want a fresh start! I don't think my parents will allow for a legal name change, but could colleges still call me by a nickname if i asked them to?

Are professors at colleges required to call you by your real name..or can you just ask them to call you by a nickname?

I know this is a silly question, but I'm just worried. I need a fresh start

Tell them what you want them to call you, lots of people do! I’ve known several people who adopted a name that they liked better to use at school or at work. Whether you want to change your legal name is an entirely different thing. Try the “new name” for a while, and then see what you want to do.

thanks for the advice!!

Such an option is available in the commonapp too.

I knew several people who changed their names when they got to college. It’s a great time to start over, as you’ll be meeting lots of new people.

You might give some thought about how your parents will feel about this. They are the ones who chose your name, after all. :)
