If i started the application process a year late could I get into NAPS the next year?

btosm14: From your other posts, I believe that you are completing both junior and senior years of high school in the same year, and I think that you have mentioned that you want to attend law school.

I believe that NAPS is intended for candidates who have potential, but it is predominantly for those who need another year of academic "seasoning" - either their academic standing in high school, or their test scores may be borderline for direct admission.

If you are a good enough candidate academically to qualify for law school, I doubt that you would be considered a NAPS candidate. Also, realize that USNA appointments are intended almost exclusively for those who will take on unrestricted line positions after commissioning. That's not to say that you can't end up in JAG through USNA. I would suggest that you either PM USNA1985, or search for her posts on this topic in this forum.

Hi btosm14, I'll be going to NAPS for the Class of 2009. I was in the same situation as you, PM me with your questions.

btosm14, you understand that USNA decides if you're a NAPS candidate, right? You don't apply directly to NAPS. Are you in contact w/ a BGO yet? He or she may be willing to give you a sense of how/where your candidacy may fit in the USNA scheme of things, given your slightly unusual jr/sr year combo.

2012Mom, after your son or daughter spends a plebe summer w/ some NAPS grads, ask what s/he thinks of the sentence, "If you are a good enough candidate academically to qualify for law school, I doubt that you would be considered a NAPS candidate."

what is a BGO?

Sorry -- Blue & Gold Officer. They're volunteers who perform interviews and answer applicant questions. Many are USNA alum or USN-affiliated or are Mid parents. And sorry, I forget how to find yours. (You might post that question here and try to meet the one assigned to your area, or call USNA). Most are just extraordinarily helpful.

You don't have a BGO yet...as you are not an official candidate...you won't have one until you are a candidate, and that is about a year away.

btosm14

Check out the follwing website Blue & Gold Program

This will help you locate the Blue & Gold officer in your area. You do not need to be a candidate to contact a BGO. Actully they love to get inquiries from kids 12-18 months prior to becomminga candidate. They will provide information on USNA and what you need to work on to be considered a canidate. If you are interested you need to find yours.

oops, mea culpa, I gave bad advice! My son's BGO didn't want to talk until his application was a certain percentage done. My bad.

Well actually this is for my sis and she is now a senior so we kinda do need to start the process but she can't make up her mind and thinks she has forever, but I know she doesn't! I actually am getting ready to apply for USMA! so I'll look for Our BGO!

Your sister wants to start the process of applying to the class of 2012? or 2013?

2014! I think being a plebe in 2009!

Being a plebe in 2009 will make her an applicant for the class of 2013. You don't apply directy for NAPS, USNA will make that decision. She is in a good position now to start the application for c/o 2013. She just needs to fill out the prelim app on the USNA website and continue through the app process and go to college and kick butt in plebe-like courses.

Thanx! very much

Ah I'm sorry, I misunderstood you btosm14. I thought you meant that she was a GRADUATING senior, so it confused me.

just keep in mind- BGO's are for the USNA, not USMA.
