Narrowing Down My College List

Hi there! So I’m midway through my junior year, and am looking at colleges. I have a wide range of schools on my list now, so any information on any school’s campus life and/or it’s history/pre-med program would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s my list:

Boston University
Case Western Reserve University
Drexel University
Emory University
Loyola University Chicago
Miami University
New York University
Ohio University
Rice University
The College of William and Mary
The George Washington University
The Johns Hopkins University
The Ohio State University
University of California, Los Angeles
University of Dayton
University of Washington
Washington University in St. Louis

Use Google.

What is your home state? What are your preferences in a college? I go to the College of William and Mary and I have visited several on your list, so I may be able to help. In terms of history, it is the second oldest college in the country second to Harvard so there’s plenty there. Important figures in history like Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, John Marshall, and Henry Clay have attended the school.

In terms of narrowing down your list, however, you may want to provide some more specifics of what you are looking for. Have you talked to your parents on what you can afford? You seem to have many public universities on your list. Given that public universities are generally more expensive for out of state students and can provide limited financial aid, that may be a place to start cutting. In addition, you seem to have schools with several different sizes, student bodies, and environments, so you may want so start visiting those near you to see what type of school you find most appealing.

I live in Ohio, which is where most of the public schools on my list are (safety schools). I’ve done some research on all the schools on my list, hence them being on the list, but of course schools offer some bias on their websites. I see myself thriving at urban or suburban schools, and at small or large schools. I haven’t had a serious conversation with my parents about what we can afford, but I think that my family’s idea is that we’ll find a way to make it work, so I’m not all that worried about tuition right now. I’ve visited Case, OSU, and OU and liked them all very much. Each is a very different environment, though I could see myself succeeding in all three.

As for WM, I love the history and location of it. Can you tell me anything about the social scene/the typical week for you there?

Thank you!

Also, I don’t think visiting all of the OOS schools on my list is a realistic option, so I intend to only visit the OOSs I get accepted into.
