Nassau community college music degree?

Hi All,
Has anyone heard of Nassau community college music AA degree?
Do you know weather it's good? bad? classic? jaz? contemperary?

Any info would be great help.

thanks,
A

I looked at the program as detailed on Nassau's webpage and was quite pleasantly surprised at the depth of what is actually available for a music based program at a cc.

I did find the faculty listing and overview materials a bit on the nebulous side in terms of ensemble opportunities, faculty backgrounds, availability of lessons, etc.

Again, I have no detailed knowledge of cc music offerings in general, and whether this program will work for you is contingent upon what you're looking for, your level of talent and experiences, and the talent level of peers (and instructors). It may not work for someone coming from a background of years of training, high level participatory ensembles, or intense music immersion, but could serve as a first step if your music background is less than competitive at a four year institution, or if academic and/or financial constraints are dictating your choices.

Just be aware that the level of talent and competition (particularly in the performance disiplines) is exceptional, and even those with the best skills and experience don't or can't make a living on music alone.

Perhaps if you detailed a bit of your music background and aspirations, it may enable folks to offer some alternative choices. Potential additional options are not meant to say the Nassau program is either good or bad, as I have no firsthand or hearsay knowledge that would allow me to comment.

If you interested in music degree programs at a NYS community college, you might want to investigate Onondaga CC near Syracuse.

I do not have any firsthand experience with this school, but I do know they have articulation agreements with SUNY Potsdam (Crane), SUNY Fredonia, Ithaca College, Mansfield (PA), and Nazareth College in Rochester.

They also recently completed new residence halls.

Good luck!
