Wow what is the number?

Dbate..

Again, there is no one magical number. Semi-finalist is based on the percentage of the Af. Am poplulaiton within your region. What ever the percentage is in your region, they take that percent of the top scores. One score from one state does not mean the same for another expecially if not in the same region...it is regional and based on the index score, not your test score. There are 4 regions total.

Yes, NMSC contacted each school last spring with a list of the reffered students and the school had a deadline of April something to confirm the students information and submit acceptance into the program. Our D's school counselor contacted us.

2legit2quit...

Congratulations. I beleive I will call the NMSC Acheivement department also. It takes a while for the schools to receive the notice and pass it along to the kids if they made the semi-finals. Sometimes they want to wait and make a large school announcement at an assembly, but we would like to learn this before hand.

^haha, i believe dbate was referring to the phone number.

My school did not say anything. I mean a 197 should be at least referred or something in Texas. I am going to call NM tomorrow and find out. I really hope that I get this.

Daughter got her notification from the school the 1st week of school. Each notification after that came from the organization.

As for HYS, 2 of her friends were also NAS finalists and they are attending Harvard. I have no idea if it helped or not. Both went to exclusive private schools and had exceptional gpa's and EC's.

I called the national achievement folks and they told me I was a semifinalist. I am so happy and thank GOD!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Dbate! That's great news. You know this means about $7,000 a year if you choose UT Austin.

Yep, makes UT look REAL good :)!

I got national merit semi and i expect to be getting national achievement semi-finalist as well.

My question is, are you allowed to enter both competitions? If I have to choose only one, which is more prudent to enter?

Well you can continue for both and then if you get both you decide which ever one is the most advantageous for yourself..

I got my letter in FL also

I havent gotten a letter, but when I called the office they said that I was a semifinalist. Is there a way to get the application, because my school said they haven't recieved it and did not even know about it.

I got my letter from the school, along with the packet for the finalist application. My score was 191, I'm actually surprised. I never thought that would be well enough for any special consideration, but then again that's probably by CC standards. That's the 93% out of everyone who took it, so it's not like a bad score or anything.
