@hardworking21 I know AP awards aren’t too big a deal. But, the highest one is kind of nice to be able to put on an app, even though it won’t make too much of a difference. I’ve also already seen the “most prestigious awards” thread, which serves more as a way to show me what kinds of things other high schoolers are getting.

@zMatrix: is there some collegeboard source explicitly stating this? i took a total of 9 exams (8 5’s and a 2 for good measure, since i suck at french), but i took the calc AB exam junior year and calc BC exam senior year. for an obvious reason (i’m already off to college) i don’t care about the award, but i’m curious because AB and BC are technically distinct exams, and my situation illustrates a situation where taking both exams would be for a very practical purpose, as opposed to simply boosting the number of APs taken (it’s a bit complicated and unimportant).

^
I would think taking AB and BC would count as two, I’ve seen nothing to suggest otherwise. (Obviously the AB subscore of BC wouldn’t count…)

@besjbo: I think we can agree to that. It’s a small bump up, nothing too big.

From the AP Scholar Award Website:

“The Calculus AB subscore, Music Theory aural subscore, and Music Theory nonaural subscore are not used in the AP Scholar Award calculations.”

So, if I’ve taken 9 exams, one of which was Calculus AB, does that mean only 8 of them actually count toward National AP Scholar?

No. Calculus AB DOES count, just not the AB subscore of the BC exam.

Just got an email back from the AP people and they said that both tests count towards awards.

National AP Scholar
Granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

bluewind - It is a minimum of 8 exams with 4 or 5 and an overall average of 4. So if one takes a 9th one and fails, if the average stays at 4 that person can still get the award. However,if there are 8 4s and the ninth one is a 3, the eligibility is lost unless one took 9th one later.
