National Buckeye, Maximus, Provost and Trustee Scholarships

I received national buckeye (12,500) and provost (2,500) on 1/4. Was accepted 11/21. Still awaiting decision on the Scholars program!

3.85 w, 32 ACT, OOS (PA)

@milli211 does your HS rank?

Is it an indication that my essays are bad if I have a 36 ACT and >3.95 UW GPA if I haven’t gotten a merit scholarship by this point? I was admitted to the College of Engineering so I know that I’m not a horrible applicant…

@18college1111 Your essays or perhaps if you are in-state(?) that could explain why. You should contact the regional admissons representative who covers the territory where you live to inquire. I understand that admissons is more competitive and thus more selective percentage-wise (thus higher stats are needed) for the College of Engineering (COE) than at any of the other undergraduate colleges within Ohio State University. Merit aid is really about supply and demand. It’s offered to applicants as an inducement to attend. Since the demand is greatest for the COE and the available spots are limited (only 1565 enrollees for 2017 as compared to 1886 enrollees in 2013, according to the COE enrollment data in the 2017 Annual statistical report), I am not sure if merit aid is limited for in-state accepted COE applicants-because it does not appear to be needed as an inducement for in-staters to attend.

@milli211 my son is the reverse, he got into the Scholars program but no word about merit (we are OOS). It sounds like the Provost letters have gone out and perhaps he didn’t qualify as our HS does not rank. I’m hoping he gets something in the form of merit.

@trackmbe3 I suppose that makes sense, thank you. It just makes me worry about some of my other applications but I guess there’s not much I can do about any of it now.

@H0llyw00d my HS does not rank. Just got accepted to the Scholars program yesterday! I have a friend who was accepted to OSU the same day as me but has not heard about scholarships so I’m not really sure how they decide the order of letters…If he got into the Scholars program, I’m sure he’ll get some form of merit.

@milli211 Congrats on getting into scholars! What program did you choose?

@milli211 Thank you for the info and congratulations! Wishing you luck getting into the Scholars program of your choice.

@oreo32 I got into the Media, Communications, and Marketing program as I am planning to major in Journalism.

If a student qualifies academically for a scholarship do they get it automatically? My in state son has exceeds the minimum stats for Maximus but has not heard anything, He was accepted on 12/15.

Hi @Brownsl.

The Merit scholarships are not guaranteed. The website does show the range of stats for those who can receive, but aren’t automatic or guaranteed. To be considered you had to apply by 11/1. Then it’s a matter of them expending the funds available, and no one can be sure if the logic used to do that, when they money is out it’s out. Last year many who qualified stats wise didn’t receive.

Good luck, it’s still early! Many haven’t even received a decision yet, so keep the faith!

@H0llyw00d and @18college1111 I don’t think it could hurt to call admissions about merit aid–our only notification of merit came through snail mail and no email follow up. Nothing on BuckeyeLink either. Possibly a lost letter?

@brutusmom I agree, I am going to call admissions on Tuesday (they aren’t open on Monday as per the woman I spoke with yesterday about signing up for Buckeye Bound). Thank you!

@Meant2B Thanks for the info.

bump

Has anyone heard yet about the Buckeye along with Trustee scholarships? I’ve seen several posts for Buckeye with Maximus and Provost, but no Trustees. Wondering if they have started notifying that level?

I haven’t seen anything and called Admissions yesterday. They told me scholarship notifications went out to a select few and the majority of them will be sent out in February.

anyone get any recent merit awards in mail? Nothing here and heard about 6 weeks ago on acceptance

We’ve been patiently waiting too. I called Admissions again to confirm when notifications will be distributed and was told we’d have information by the end of February.
