Hi,
has anybody received a letter from the national honor roll asking you/your child to complete and submit the student profile included so that they can decide whether or not to induct you/your child into the national honor roll? I'm confused as to why they sent me one.

I got that in like 8th grade. I'm not exactly sure why. haha.
I've never heard of it other than that.

It is a moneymaking thing where they would like to sell you an expensive book. Is meaningless as far as colleges are concerned. If you want to do it just fill it out but don't spend money on the books etc.

This sounds like a money-maker for somebody you should ignore. I just got a Who's Who in America application for myself. Now I'm a nice person, a psychologist who's worked for only a few years, an activist who has never achieved anything extraordinary and a very happy Mom. This is Who's Who material?? I don't think so. I believe that everyone who is a self-supporting and contributing member of society is wonderful. I wouldn't pay to put myself in a book like that however.

Yeah, it does sound fishy. I'm a good student and all, but I don't think I've done anything extraordinary to deserve national recognition.

here's a useful link for info:

(just google 'national honor roll'

Thanks for that info. There was a little article in our local paper today with some names and I was a little confused. My oldest was in National Honor Society and I kept thinking what is this National Honor Roll?
What a scam. Like a "Whos Who" for kids...

Hate to break it to you ebeeeee - there is actually a Who's Who for high school kids.

OMG and my kid isn't in it....THAT's what the letter I threw out was for. Her future is ruined and it is all my fault.
Another item for her shrink when she gets older :)

Be prepared - there are several of these kinds of money-making schemes (I almost said scams) targeting High Schoolers - especially seniors. For most of them the goal is to have you buy a book with your name in it. Some give out some scholarships but I imagine it's a small percentage of what they take in. I threw all solicitations like this in the trash. Also be on the lookout for college financing solicitations.
