National Honor Roll?

I just got this thing in the mail today that says I've qualified for the National Honor Roll? Is this thing legit.. or is this just another one of the scams to get you to send in money?

My advice is to never pay for an "honor." My daughter has also received an invitation for NHR. If you are qualified for such an honor, your credentials will stand by themselves. There is no need to pay anyone to simply say you are a top student.

Ok good..... this one actually sounded legit but... I couldnt tell you how many programs have mailed me saying ...."Congratulations, you have been choosen out of millions of students...." blah blah blah blah.... and then at the end is says..."Please send your application along with a 150 dollars to secure your spot in this once in a lifetime oppurtunity".........its rediculous

Hello all:

In 2004 I submitted a very detailed post about National Honor Roll. Here is the URL: http://www.collegeconfidential.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?6/92736

Today I re-printed my post here:

I have also been contributing to The Blog that ate Manhattan. Please check out this URL: http://theblogthatatemanhattan.blogspot.com/2006/04/national-honor-roll-scam.html

Hopefully this information will help unsuspecting parents and students put their money in the right place. I wouldn't give my money to this scam organization.

I believe that there was a post (maybe by Marite?) that suggested that students list on their resumes that they were invited to join "X Society" but not pay the money to join. I checked the 990 of one of these groups and found that they spent a very high percentage of their income (from membership dues) on mailings (to solicit more members)--much more than what I believe a group should spend.

"National Honor Roll is a scam" Yes, it is.
