@OspreyCV22 your son’s NHS chapter sounds extremely similar to mine. We have to get teacher recommendations and go through a really rigorous process to get into NHS. We have to do 20 hours of community service a year as well. I wish it was somewhat standardized from school to school rather than it be a joke at some schools and a big deal at others.
We do have to go through a rigorous application process, but the way the sponsors select people is somewhat random and we do hardly any projects. So it’s not entirely a joke, but it’s not the most valuable club to be a part of and is not exactly an indication of prestige.
NHS is indisputably not a booster for anyone, for all the reasons listed here. Everyone puts it on their app. There is NO national standard. At some schools it is very selective, at others it is nothing more than having a good GPA. Colleges don’t care about it at all, other than its an EC. If NHS ever bothered to adopt national standards it might be a different story.
