National Merit Confirming Score

Approximately what score on the new SAT would you expect to be the cutoff to advance to finalist? I am currently a semifinalist and got a 1460 taking it without prep (730 and 730, 3x8 for essay). Would it be worth retaking it for added security, or will this score be good enough? Thanks!

I’m sure that’s high enough. The confirming score under the 3 part SAT was just under 2000. Your is well above that.

With the new SAT, the National Merit Foundation is using a Selection Index like they do for the PSAT to see who qualifies as a National Merit Semifinalist instead of using the test score. Many of the posters here have called the National Merit Foundation ( me included!) and the way to compute the SI for the new SAT is to add the 3 section scores together and multiply by 2. If the number is over 209, congratulations! Although the National Merit Foundation has not set a cutoff for a confirming SI, they have said it will not be over 209. I also suggest you call the National Merit Foundation and make sure they have received your SAT score. They will also confirm if you have a confirming SI. They are really great to talk to. Congratulations on becoming a NMSF!!
