PSAT NMSF Question

If you make NSMF (Idk whether I personally have made it or not), you have to "confirm" your scores by taking the SAT. What score would one have to get to "confirm" their score?

Say you got a 218 which qualified you for National Merit in your state. In order to advance to finalist standing, you would probably have to score around 2150+ in order to confirm your score (maybe even a 2100+). However, scoring drastically low (like a 1900) would probably eliminate your chances and they would probably think your PSAT score was a fluke.

I thought there was a set cutoff for the nation?

There are set cutoffs for semifinalist for each state (with a few exceptions). For example, Virginia’s cutoff is around 217 while the Texas cutoff is around 208.

No I mean a cutoff to confirm your scores.

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but someone called the National Merit office recently and the cutoff for the SAT to confirm your scores was just below 2000. I don’t know if that number changes from year to year.
