The $2500 scholarship winners are publicly announced in May, but they are privately notified of winning the scholarship in March.

S received today in Kansas! So proud of you.

Got the letter in the mail yesterday as well as the one that was mailed to the school…

son got the letter on Monday, February 10th in Michigan. But he still didn’t get the certificate through his school. I called NMSC and was told his school can contact NMSC and request another copy from NMSC.

^ I read that some schools may hold the certificate until graduation to distribute.

got letter for finalist in PA today.

Received letter in SoCal today!

We still haven’t received ours in SoCal so we just called and they confirmed that she made it and a letter had been mailed.

Still nothing in SoCal
Hopefully today is the day.

Have the home letter and the school has the certificate here in Texas. After a year and a half of waiting, checking and double checking that we had done everything and then waiting some more, it seems kind of surreal. I keep wondering if there is something else we have to do. But instead we are filling out honors dorm applications…feeling blessed

I am still confused. If you name a college and get their scholarship offer. Can you still receive the $2500? I think not, but not sure. Also, is there a difference in designation? Meaning that if you are a NM Finalist, Are you a National Merit Scholar? Or is that left to the 8000 NMF who receive the $2500 scholarship monies?

There are 2500 winners of the $2500 NMSC scholarship. If you get that scholarship you are not eligible for “official” college- or corporate-sponsored NMF scholarships. The large “unofficial” NMF scholarships that many colleges offer are not affected.
