National Merit Finalist Award

Does anyone know what award is given to a NMF who names UGA as their #1 choice? I cannot seem to locate any information on it. Is is nothing? Hope for one of the $2500 scholarships from the corporation or does the school offer something automatically for finalist status?

Thanks for any information...

NMF status guaranteed $500 in 2009. I imagine that hasn’t changed since then. If you can demonstrate financial need, I also believe Financial Aid can increase the award amount up to around $2000.

So - It seems you might be okay with just chancing it and possibly getting the $2500 scholarship from NM itself, if you decide not to list UGA as #1.

Is that $500 a one time stipend or is it automatically renewed each year for a total award of $2000?

NMF’s receive $500 each year (up to $2000/yr with demonstrated financial need) at UGA. You will still be considered for the NMF scholarship of $2500 even if you choose UGA (or any other school) as your first choice. If you should be selected for the one time NM scholarship then you can decline the UGA one if it would be less money for you. If there are other schools you are considering that provide significant money if they are listed as your first choice, go for it. There is plenty of time in the spring to change your choice to UGA if that’s where you eventually decide to attend.

Thanks, that’s the information I was looking for.
