<p>Do colleges get lists of the recently announced National Merit Finalists and/or what is the best way to update one's application file? My son is still waiting for decisions from 2 high-profile schools and we would like to make sure this information gets in his file.</p>
<p>I’d just email the “local” admissions counselor and ask, “do you receive NMF status or should I contact someone to make sure your university (his top choice) gets the info?” That way, you get that specific college’s information straight from the source and he/she hears your name again.</p>
<p>The NM folks might send this information to schools, especially if a NMF already declared a “first choice” college, or if a school wants the list of NMFs in order to send out recruitment letters for their scholarship opportunities. Most colleges aren’t going to scan through the list looking to see if it matches up to any applicants. </p>
<p>Which makes for a golden opportunity for your son to drop an email to each of his admissions reps at his RD schools, saying he wanted to let them know they can update his file as he’s just been named an NMF. He can then say something reiterating how much he’s hoping to hear happy news when they send out acceptances, because <school> is <one of=""> his top choice<s>. :)</s></one></school></p><s>
