So I was just named a national merit finalist. Back in the fall, I selected a "first-choice" school, but I applied early decision elsewhere. I got in, and this school does not give out merit awards, so I would not need to let them know of my status.
If I get one of the $2500 scholarships from National Merit, does it go to my "first-choice" school, or does it go to me and then I tell them what school to give to? I guess my question is - do I really need to change my "top choice" school if I know I wouldn't receive any money from them for the recognition?

why don't you change it just to be safe?

I agree with tnb. Follow the procedure for changing your first choice school, just in case. It will only take a few minutes anyway
