national merit, report jhu as top choice

If you are a National Merit Finalist, does reporting that JHU is your top choice college to NMSC so they notify JHU of your interest and hope for a scholarship have any impact on the admissions process? (Sorry if that's kind of a long/confusing sentence)

AdmissionsDaniel has said that interest plays no role in the admissions process, so will reporting to NMSC show interest but have no real impact?

For National Merit Finalists, reporting to NMSC that JHU is your top choice does not impact admissions. It does however impact financial aid, and makes the applicant eligible for The JHU National Merit scholarship: http://www.jhu.edu/finaid/prosp_stud_scholar.html#nms

I went to the Johns Hopkins ChatUniversity post whose link you gave. It's a fascinating discussion and addresses something that a lot of us have been wondering about. However, DadX4's post of Feb 24 has not been answered yet, and it really does contain the crucial questions. When his questions are answered, could you also post a link to the official response here?
