National Merit Scholar commended cut off of 2015 or 2014 ?

What is a cut off for last year's National merit scholarship from PA ?

What does mean in the fine print of the score sheet it says "* next to the score means you do not meet requirements to enter the 2016 National Merit Scholarship program"

Mine does not have * does it mean I will get commended even I dont have over 213?

The only time the scores matter is when you take the PSAT your junior year. Alot of kids take it freshman and soph year for practice and no matter what your score, you will have that * next to the score. Look back through last years NMF stuff and you’ll see all the scores.

Yes am a junior and had 197. As per old posts I may not get semifinalist but wanted to know whether get commended?

fanpit, where does it say that on your sheet?

just in the bottom of the score sheet a standard fine print. where can I get the cut off commended?

I see 201 is the national cut off for NMSP commended for 2015. Is that the figure always ? I am 4 points short for that. So no hope right?

Commended score changes year to year. Last year (HS Class of 2015 was 201, year before that was 203, before that was 200 (?)) It’s usually 200 to 203. Good luck.

right thats what I found. So I am not in the radar then… What exactly people get being commended ?. I know semifinalist will qualify to enter for scholarships…

You not having an asterisk means you’re entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you had gotten a 60 you would still have not gotten an asterisk.

Pretty sure the cutoff is always 200 and above. You will not be getting commended, sorry. As for what getting commended gets you, I think not very much. You can put it as an award on your application, but elite tier colleges are really only pay attention to semifinalists (finalists and scholars aren’t determined by the submission of applications).
