National Merit Scholarships

I got a college-sponsored award but I'm going to a different school. I know that the award is non-transferrable (which is really sad...there goes $8k). If I tell the NMSC that I will not be going to the college that's giving the award, could I still be in the running for the one-time National Merit Scholarship?

Man, it really does not make much sense for the student to have to write down a college on the National Merit app before she even knows where she's accepted.

Well, you did have until March 1 to change it…but maybe you hadn’t heard yet from your first choices…NM announces in waves and this was the 3rd of 4 announcements. First was the NM scholarships, then the corporate sponsored scholarships, then college sponsored and the last is for those who accepted the three previous but after their press deadline.

That being said, I do know someone who transferred a NM scholarship but not a college sponsored one.

you were already considered for a one-time $2500 NM scholarship because everyone was regardless of what college they put. sorry for the news, but as far as i know, all of those recipients have been notified.

Yeah. My decisions came a month later.

Thanks for answering. And thank goodness Harvard gives awesome fin aid :)
