National Merit Semi-finalist!!

anyone from pa??

anyone know michigan's cutoff?

cutoffs are on this thread--see #19, page 1

Those are last year's cutoffs.

Anyone heard from Texas?

Ballet - yes, my daughter heard yesterday. I believe the cutoff is 217.

im sorry for bothering ppl but anyone from pa know what the cutoff is?

also...new york seems to be the only state to have the same cutoff as last year...all others are increasing...

No, they aren't. Hawaii's cutoff is down two from last year. Also, states that are increasing have only increased by one. All of these states have either been unchanged for a long time or went down last year (Arizona). States that jumped a lot last year should either be unchanged or even go down. At the most they go up one. Not TOOOOO bad.

My school's so slow!

albertfermat1- how do you know NY has the same cutoff this year? i haven't seen anyone posting from NY that has heard yet

The cutoff for New York, for people graduating in 2006, is 218, which is the same as last year's.

anyone from Mo?? cutoff 2006????

Does anyone know what the RI cutoff is?

My son just got stopped in the hall by the principal to congratulate him-- he barely squeaked in with a 218. Good luck.

Here in NJ my S has 219 -- probably only Commended. DARN. Congrats to all who are Semifinalists.

Apparently an e-mail I sent to the school asking about if they had received the finalist packages prompted them to give them to us... (I sent it last friday, we got them today... Standard confidentiality stuff. They said "We only gave them to you because someone has been talking to students at other schools")...

So, yeah, Alabama has results, but I have no idea what the cutoff is.

if someone were to be a finalist, and got a 1520 on the old sat but didn't take the sat 2 writing, and did poorly on new sat (ie. 2070), would that drastically affect his chances of scholarship opportunity and/or finalist standing?

Do they take your best combined score? When you send in your SAT scores, they send all of the SAT scores you ever received, right?

And when you write your essay, what kind of essay are they looking for? A creative, college application-type essay?

I'm from NY and my principal just stopped me in the hallway (my school doesnt start for another week but I had cross country preseason) to tell me I was a semifinalist. I got a 218, so I'm really glad that I made it (I wouldn't have really cared if I missed it though, its not that big a deal). My SATI combined was 2320 so I'm not to worried about missing the finalist cut off.
