National Merit Semi-finalist!!

big brother is watching...actually even worse, the college board

AHHHHH!!!!

heh, i don't think college board is the same company as the national merit people

i just can't see CB giving away money so freely

About 93% of the semi-finalists become finalists. Most of those that don't make it probebly screw up the paperwork.

Here are some hints:

When you get your packet make a copy of it right away. Make extra copies of the selection postcard.

2.Take care of the SAT business. figure you need 2050 or so. Take them oct. nov or dec. till you get them--and dont forget to send the results to them.

fill out the application perfectly. I suggest you do it on the draft first and then copy it. Meet every deadline.

that's it. you're in

Wait, can you explain #1 and why that would be necesary?

Thanks

:)

sure. They dont give out extra copies of the packet. so filling it out on a draft is prudent.

I'm pretty sure that the confirmation sat score is the lowest state cutoff score with a zero. ie 205 in south dakota =2050 . use new sats or old sats with now defunct satII writing if you took it . take sats in oct, nov or dec if you need it

Ah, thanks.

:)

wow, so if you are one, you should know by now?

depends on your school

According to my counselor, my school has been in existance for 10 years and we get about 5-10 semifinalists every year. Only one student in 10 years has failed to become a finalist, and he was a guy who graduated last year - really smart, but the laziest person you'll ever meet. He failed like half his classes and it was miracle that he graduated high school, although his SAT was like 1450.

5-10 semifinalists. Do you go to a public school?

yeah, a pretty large one (1200 kids per class). as far as public schools go, it's pretty competitive also

but the point i was making was, after you get semifinalist, you've got very good chance of making finalist unless you really mess something up...

so for those students in the ACT world, one must take the SATs to substantiate their semifinalist PSAT score? That is, ACT scores won't suffice?

Nope, you need sats or you lose it

I know one person who didn't make finalist. She didn't read the paperwork carefully; and although her SAT scores were stellar, they were too old to submit for the competition. The confirming SAT has to be taken within certain dates. By the time she realized her error, it was too late.

Do winners and/or finalists get anything other than a scholarship from NMSC? Is there like a big awards ceremony where they give you a plaque or something?

Hurray, just found out... semifinalist in NJ! Score was 233.

we have a lot of semfinalists, about 30 every year with about 400 people per class. but then again for CA the cutoff is 216.

anyone in ny hear anything?? anybody??

The cutoff for NY was 218 this year.

Does anyone know the 2006 Cutoff score for Missouri?
