National Merit Semifinalits switching schools?

So for grades 9-11 I attended a public high school but for my senior year I have decided to switch to (online) home schooling. I recently found out that I am a national merit semifinalist but have no clue where to go from here. Usually the school guides you through the process so I don’t have those resources anymore. I have heard that there is a section for schools to fill out when you apply to be a finalist. How would I have this done if my school is now online and how do I let the competition officials know that I have switched schools? Is there anything else I should know about the process of becoming a finalist?

I’d suggest you call NMSC. Your letter from them should have a phone number, or else just google it up. They’re very nice and helpful and I guarantee they’ll help you!

I homeschooled my kids, and the two high school grads were both NM kids, and so I had to do the “school part” of the NM paperwork for them. It wasn’t terribly onerous, but it is time consuming (a few hours) and requires close attention.

I’ve called NMSC a couple times over the years, and they were very nice and helpful. It won’t reflect badly on you, at all! They can help you figure out whether the “old school” or your “new school” or your mom/dad (as your “homeschooling principal” should do the paperwork.

So long as your school grades were good (ideally, no Cs or worse) and you take the SAT, etc, as required by NMSC, getting from NMSF to NMF is pretty easy, so just get it done, even if it requires some phone calls and jumping through some hoops.

You will want to hassle folks until all the paperwork is done, as NM can be a HUGE financial boon! HUGE!
