National merit vs. presidential scholarship

auburn offers a scholarship to all national merit finalists, and another competitive academic scholarship to students with certain test scores and gpa. i will be eligible for both (currently a junior). to those who know: which scholarship is better? it appears they are almost the same, except presidential does not cover room and board.

As a NMF you will be awarded the Presidential (tuition/fees, $1500 1st year technology allowance, $4000 after sophomore year and one semester to use for study abroad or an unpaid internship) and you will also be awarded a residential allowance equal to a standard double dorm (10-11 year $4550) as long as you live on campus and an additional stipend of $1000 to $2000 depending on financial need. In addition, you need to apply for a college departmental scholarship. My daughter’s intended college of study awarded her an additional $3500 per year without a GPA requirement based on being a NMF. I don’t know if this is the standard amount with all of the colleges or if it varies depending on the college, even so it isn’t anything to sneeze at.

Last, your tuition/fees and residential parts of the scholarship adjust each year as those costs increase.

thank you.
