Ziggy, I don't know which schools. I've been just researching each school on my son's list of reaches/matches/safeties individually, to determine which are the best choices. WUSTL isn't on his list, so I have no idea about it.

Oh, and out of son's class of less than 50 juniors, he was the only one. The rest of his classmates weren't even close.

Commended is not too highly regarded, but I expect maybe 15-20% of my class has been named commended this far in the NM game.

What really counts is being named Semi-Finalist. My freshman year I remember only a couple from my school, last year maybe ten, but this year the graduating class produced 19 out of about 150 (of the magnet program) = 12.6%. This figure seems huge to me in comparison to previous years..

Anyway Commended is supposed to recognize 5% of PSAT takers, which answers the question and was the very first response. Lol.

My kids' HS had about 35 NMSFs out of his class of about 240 students; don't know how many commended students there were as well.
Generally, the NM cut-off for commended is about 203 or so.

I think 36 out of around 800, so that works out to about 4.5%
woohooo....my first post!

JyankeesSS2 said: I am the only person in my class of 550 or so...so .002% lol".

Heh, how'd you get that number?

Eyeroll.

Lol, I'm rather worried about that school... ...

Hahaha, i'd have to agree with danielle

115/280-300 (not reall sure how many in class..)

Let's see. My class has about 435 people. One other person and I became finalists last year. There were several others who were commended.

I don't know about this year, but the 2 or 3 years before me, we didn't have any semi-finalists. But then, my class must be better test takers, because we brought our school's state testing scores up every year. I don't know what they're going to do without us this year, lol.

This is the first year our school has had any qualifiers. Just me and one other girl out of about 700. She will be a semifinalist, and I will likely be commended unless FL's cutoff goes down just ONE point (fingers crossed).

There are probably an insane number of commended people at my school. It's a class of about 500.

I personally know six people who scored above 230, and that's just people i KNOW and above 230. Now imagine switching the tens and unit digit. There must be a gazillion people who scored above 203 =O.

Alright, maybe I'm exaggerating, but there has to be at least a good three dozen people who got commended.

I personally scored a 226. Will I be a finalist? (I'm in Missouri)

33/410 were recognized this year from my class.

The highest cut-off in prior years was 222, so with a 226, you should definitely make semi-finalist. To make finalist, you need to apply, send in your transcript, a recommendation from your college counselor & a short essay. 15,000 of the 16,000 NMSFs become NMFs, so you have a good chance of making NMF.

Wow, for you posters that go to high schools where like 30% of your class is at least commended.. what the heck does -your- caferteria serve?

In my high school, only about 15/580 were commended!

My school is even less than yours. You can never use the people here as a good representation of all the high schools or students, because CCers tend to be smart kids who go to good schools.

I mean, people were talking about/complaining that their school was lowly ranked, when my school, and tons more, weren't even ranked.

Though I admit I fit the "smart kid" category, even if I don't go to a "good" high school.

We had about 80 students get commended, and if the number's the same as last year's, it'll be around 35-40.

Strange...no one in my school has even received a letter yet. And I know plenty of people who scored 230+.

There are only seven people in my junior class, but I was the only one to get semi-finalist or commended (I know I got commended, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting semi with a 219 in Kentucky)

10/592 for a school in Michigan. I got a 212 and I'm hoping for semi-finalist. The cutoff was a 211 last year.
