National Science Bowl

Only 3 more weeks until we're off to DC!

Anyone else on HSL going to Nationals?

Yeah, I’m excited!
Our team won the Bakersfield regional.
Which region are you representing?

My team is representing Sacramento (we’re Mira Loma). We’ve gotten a lot better since last year, and the 4 of us did pretty well last year. What school are you?

Dos Pueblos High School. We first formed a science bowl club last year, which took second to Stockdale at the Bakersfield regional. This year we had a brand new team(nobody participated in 2008) and won. It’s the first year our school is going to nationals, so I dont really know what to expect. Are the questions about the same difficulty as the later rounds of regional competition?

Well, the round robin questions are about the same difficulty as the double elimination rounds of regionals. The double elimination at Nationals is pretty hard.

Stockdale was funny last year. They were in our division, but they only had 3 people. So they were disqualified.

We got third in state :(

Believe it or not, GA is VERY competitive when it comes to NSB.

I’m going to NSB for the second time, from the Portland, OR regional. We played Walton last year, so I know what you mean about Georgia.

Yeah, I really didn’t like Walton. We caught them cheating but didn’t say anything because they were beaten by Parkview :D

Did Walton make double elimination last year?

Sadly no, went last year though, hopefully next. Need to get teammates to improve…

I really wish I had gone last year… It was only year I was on the team, and only year in the past 7 we didn’t win regionals. Brooklyn Tech beat us out by 2 points in the 1st game of the double elim final, we beat them by 100+ the second, they won by ~40 last, and that was the only year they were in our regional.

I hate teams that hop regionals, but sometimes it’s necessary.

urgh my team should practice. We beat the 1st and 2nd place team in our regional, but like we really need to practice. Ultimately in the championship round we lost by one or two points to both teams. urgh urgh.

Hey guys, I’m the captain of Parkview (reppin GA)
I saw a few mentions of GA teams, so how did your regions go?

oh and to gernerally, you guys have some pretty good players, but a few bucked under pressure :
it was all we could do to beat you guys

Our regionals was fun. We won by a pretty wide margin, 160-8. Everyone was in awe of us from the beginning though, so there we used the intimidation to our advantage.

-totally irrelevant-

@insta Hm, I hear Mira Loma has a good SciOly team. xD

And @nickst DP has a good varsity tennis team, I remember we lost by a single game.

insta - sounds like a pretty solid win :stuck_out_tongue:
we won our subregion in similar fashion, the score in the semis was 202-4
have you been to nats before? I know your team got second last year

Wow, 160-8…
We actually lost the first game of the finals =P. It was really close, i think 58-46 loss in the first game before a 60 to 42 win. Then again, we went really slow, with few interrupts and taking all the time on bonuses.

Yeah, I was on the team that got 2nd last year. None of us graduated, so the five of us are the same team from last year.
