I recently got a letter from George Mason University inviting me to participate in a National Young Leaders Conference for a fee of about $800. Is this worth it? Would colleges like to see something like this on an application and is it worth paying $800 for a line on my application? Please help. Thanks!

If it costs money - it’s not with noting, because of the people who can’t afford that amount of money. They’ll just identify you as a rich person, sure it’ll give you a background, and sure it’s an EC, but there are MANY other things that colleges can identify that with, and besides, it’s only going to be impressive to GMU since it’s affiliated with it.

I got the same exact letter but for NYLF, and it was around $2,500…I decided not to do it because I can’t afford it. It was ridiculous for that amount of money just for a week when I can just visit a hospital and ask a worker as much questions as I can

Ask yourself, does this sound like something you would get a lot out of, can you afford it, and most importantly, would you still do it even if you were not allowed to list it on your college application? I think you have the answer now.
