The Cal Poly app asks the question: “Are you a Nationally Recognized Scholar” without explanation of this credential. National Merit Scholar? National Honor Society? Something else? Would appreciate any insights! Thanks!
National Merit Scholarship Foundation and College Board National Recognition Program qualify. Cal Poly offers scholarships to national scholars who receive awards from either program. So this is most likely what they mean, but you could email admissions for clarification to make sure.

I don’t remember that question in the past, but I could have just forgotten. When my NMS student was accepted to SLO, she was contacted after her acceptance and asked to send verification that she was a NMS. They seemed to know who to send that letter to without her indicating it on the application. A few days after she submitted the verifying letter, they applied the scholarship to her account. This was all done before May 1.
