Native American applying ED?

So, I've heard that ED isn't that effective unless you're an athlete. What about being a Native American? I'm willing to apply ED as long as I know my chances of getting in are increased, and that I won't get shafted on the financial aid part. My parents are worried about the financial aid part of it, but there are personal reasons (not great decisions IMO) that are the cause of their worry.

So will ED as a Native give me any help? My test scores are quite good, ACT was good enough to get me a free trip to Cornell engineering this weekend, but my GPA and class rank aren't exactly stellar. My weighted is like a 3.99, and I'm just skirting top 10 percent. If I do decide to go ED I'll have to change from RD as it's all been submitted already, but I would love to know if it'll help at all.

being native american will help getting in anywhere except for ucs.

Native American with current tribal registration & decent test scores should have received a fly-in offer, should be admitted & should receive generous financial aid from Dartmouth College as this school was founded to educate N.A.s.

Ed is also sometimes helpful if you are a legacy

I'm 1/16th Choctaw. Is that legit enough? I don't think it is, but some people have told me it counts. What do you guys think?

You must be currently registered with your tribe. I believe that 1/16 is the minimum.

balls. I'm definitely not registered.

it depends on each tribe doesnt it, the percentage of native american you are?

Op,

While being a registered Native American is a hook, it will not make up for deficiencies in your application. That said, you are being really vague here.

What constitutes "quite good" as it is a relative term? In short, what are your test scores?

What is your unweighted gpa? There is already and expectation that you are taking the most rigerous courses your school offers so they will be looking at unweighted gpa.

Did you apply for Dartmouth's Native American Fly-in (this would have given you a good indication as to whether they thought you were a viable candidate)? ITA with Coldwind's post #3.

If you have tossed your hat in already, all you can do is wait it out and see what happens. You could be either accepted, denied or waitlisted. No matter what happens if you do not apply, you have no chance of getting admitted.

good luck to you in the cycle.

My UW GPA is probably about a 3.5... I've had about an equal number of B's and A's, and no C's as far as I can remember

Test scores, ACT got a 32 (28,29 on Eng and Rdg (can't remember which was which), and then a 34 on the Sci and a 36 on math)
SAT: 700 Math, 600CR, 640W, retook last month, scores come out tongiht. I expect better.
SAT2: 740 Math, 700 Chem, 640 Lit (not great, but I like my ACT subscores better :) )

And I did get asked for the fly in program, but I didn't really write a very good essay at all, rather poor actually. I just had so much other stuff I was dealing with that I didn't have a whole lot of time to focus on that. I did get into Cornell's Diversity in Engineering hosting that was this past weekend.

I would apply ED to Dartmouth if it gives me a better chance of getting in, but at the same time my parents are getting on the whole finances bandwagon, because I'm also applying to Arkansas as my backup where I'm guaranteed in state tuition, and am applying for a prestigious fellowship that would give me 12 grand a year on top of that... not a bad deal.

So I guess I'll just apply RD, unless there is a significant advantage to applying ED

You missed a great time at the fly-in, I have to say. Still, you have a good shot.
