Natural Improvement Between Junior and Senior Years?

Has anyone noticed a natural improvement in their scores between their Junior and Senior Years? I'm a rising Junior and I've consistently been getting either 33.25 or 33.5 on official ACTs. I really need to get either a 35 or a 36. Last year my scores were around 31/32 and I didn't do any major prep to get them to where they are now. Will I "naturally" improve again before Senior Year or am I being too hopeful?

When you’re consistently scoring in the mid to upper thirties, I’m not sure if you can “naturally” improve to a perfect or near-perfect score. I think to reach your goal, you’re going to have to take many practice tests and get lucky on test day (not getting a randomly hard/oddly worded question). That’s just my opinion- perhaps you will ace it just by natural improvement :)

Agreed with Vince.

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing thing as natural improvement when you’re in the 34-36 range. Either you get lucky or unlucky, and that’s the sad truth of it.

I certainly hope so. But yeah, I’m going to continue taking practice tests. Can anyone post their scores between Junior and Senior years? It’ll help me get an idea of just how much I can improve.

Sophomore ACT (June) - 24
Junior ACT (March) - 31
Junior ACT (April) - 32

Didn’t take any practice tests… natural improvement??

Man… You guys are all so test-happy! I’ve put all my eggs into one basket. The first and only ACT I’ve taken is June 2010 ACT, and I am going to be a senior next year.

I guess I should hope that I do well :P…

^ Same here. :)

Although I do have a 2200 SAT backup.

Sept of my Sophomore year I got a 22. Almost 2 years later I took the ACT, so let’s see how much I improved.

@katemorganne: That’s a tremendous improvement. When you said “Sophomore ACT (June),” were you referring to the June before your sophomore year or the June after?

I feel like there would be little to no improvement from end of junior year to beginning of senior year. Considering the fact that summer is between (unless you spend your summer prepping- thank God I dont have to) and even beginning of senior year begins the stress of college apps

Doubt you’ll naturally improve. Thankfully, in your position, practice will almost certainly give you a great chance at scoring a 35 or 36.

Personally, I can’t help you with anecdotal evidence, as I only took the ACT and SAT once.

I think it honestly is mostly luck once you get into the 33, 34, 35, 36 range. But if you’re like me, who got 35;35;27;25, then improvement is much more plausible. But if you’re getting 31;31;30;32, it’s going to be much harder to go up.

^ Yeah I’d agree. It depends on your score breakdown, if you’re weak in one area you have a much better chance of naturally improving.

My most recent official practice test yielded: 34C, 36E, 36M, 36R, 29S. But I usually get at least a 32 in Science, so I really don’t know. :(

Well those are some good English and Math scores. Is there any reason to believe that English and Math are looked at most by colleges because usually they are the only sections where the middle 50% of scores are reported?

^I’m not sure about that theory.
