Soon after I submitted my pre-lim app i received contact from a officer at the Guidance Counselor office at the Naval Academy. (before contact from my BGO) The officer scheduled a meeting at my house soon after contacting me. Does this mean anything?

Try posting this in the Academies sub forum under colleges.

Generally, this suggests your profile info may portray you as a potential priority need of the Navy, and there is a desire to enhance the pool with your continued application. These tend to be about selling you, nor your selling them.

When did you submit your pre-lim application?

The NA has recently “employed” [as in TADed] ensigns to make follow-up calls through the CGO. Ordinarily, a telephone call of this nature would probably not mean much.

A follow-on visit seems unusual. Are you an under-represented minority? Sometimes, a regional minority counselor will contact and counsel those who may need additional assistance in getting their applications completed, etc.

i submitted my pre-lim maybe a month before. I submitted my Application a couple days later. I am not a under represented minority (white, male). I also am not athletic recruit. I have however taken 5 years of Chinese.

As Bill noted, some ensigns being utilized for these interviews, as they await further assignment. Also, a number of background investigators working for private companies are being engaged for this task.

got 2 nominations, was denied :

I am sorry to hear you were not accepted. Many really good candidates did not make it this year. No idea why they take some students that need remedial education to even be able to enter the academy over students who have already demonstrated their ability to complete college work. Dd 1370/1600 sat, GPA 3.9 uw and 4.43 w, Full IB diplomia candidate with AP and honors classes, 8 varsity letters, swim captain, volunteers every single Sunday, leadership postion and speaking position through church. Can run 6 something minute run and do pull-ups.

The guy who got in was a minority that could carry a football but was not able to get a direct appointment and will attend NAPS.

The part that gets me is she was just a drop in the bucket. I am sure there were many more this go round that got the twe that really didn’t deserve it.
