Navy ROTC

I'm unfortunately starting from scratch so I've got loads of applications to do this winter break. I have no clue about the initial app. but the website did specify that the deadline was Jan. 25th because I searched around the site for it.

I recieved in the mail today my NROTC nominatoin to Notre Dame's unit!

I found out a couple days ago that I received a 4 year NROTC scholorship to UW but I am going to try and change it to OU. I still am waiting on USNA I received my LOA about a month ago and am just waithing on a waiver for my height and eyes. Hopefull I will know any day now. I definatly still want to do USNA though, although I got an interesting email from my BGO today telling me all the benefits of doing NROTC.

sandigodude--

Are you talking about the NROTC nomination for USNA? or the scholarship to ND?

an NROTC scholarship is referred to as a "nomination." I have a 4-year scholarship to ND although Navy is definately my 1st choice. I do have a presidential and congressional nomination for USNA though.

hmm...i'm at UW on a 4yr NROTC scholarship...never heard of it referred to as a 'nomination'

I was curious becuase the CO of the NROTC unit can give a nomination to USNA candidates, similar to congressional noms, but they place you into a seperate candidate pool.

green09 - just curious if I do not get into usna this year... I think you said before that you are in college? Did you get your teacher reccommendations to usna from your high school teachers or your college?

I'm in college as well, and I used my senior year teachers. Unless you have some time each day to spend with your professor, you're really not going to get to know him as well as is required for a good letter of reccommendation. My advice would be to use your senior teachers.

I just checked my application status online for NROTC and it says that they have recieved all of my application materials and that they have reviewed my application, but it also says that they have my sat scores as "000". Did anyone else have this problem? Advice?

I just checked the status of my NROTC application and it also said that my SAT scores were 000, my ACT scores were there though

I didn't bother to look if this was posted earlier in this thread, but where are you guys planning on taking your scholarships?

I have been accepted to Notre Dame's unit; however, if I am accepted to Stanford or Berkeley, I will probably ask for a change of unit. I hear that trading my ND scholarship for another college is not too difficult.

Bestwestin, sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner. I also got recommendations from my high school teachers, not professors. It was easier because they had already wrote me several recs before and I felt that they would have known me better at 1-to-1 level and are more competant in judging my capabilities.

For the guys who already received a scholarship notification already, how long did it take for them to issue them after you turned the scholarship apps in?

I finished my application in late November and recieved my notification about a week ago, so about two months.

Our child finished her MCROTC application in October and we heard in mid-December she was selected for their Early Decision Scholarship. It was posted online in late December. Interestingly enough, they said we'd get paperwork in 2 weeks....that was 7 weeks ago...Siince she has her Appointment to USNA and has accepted that, we aren't checking this out yet, but it is curious as to what is up with the actual paper forms on this issue.

If I understand the paperwork I received from NROTC correctly, when you accept USNA, then you forfeit your scholarship.

Forfeit is automatic at I-day swear-in. But I think peskemom is refering to the Early Decision NROTC Scholarship paperwork. She should be able to hold on to the NROTC scholarship by telling them she will use it for sure if USNA falls through for any reason. (hope that's the case anyway)

I want to take my scholarship at George Washington University

We were told the same thing as DAD2b2010 by the NROTC people. Its good until IDAY as long as you accept the scholarship. That shows on the website.

Thanks for the clarification Dad2B2010 & Oregon Mom
