NC State 2023 Admission thread

@TechSup have older kid at state; loves it. there are small amounts of merit money older students can apply for as competitive scholarships. however, for incoming folks outside of the few presitigious ones (Park, etc…) that you already should have applied for. I’m not aware of the admissions office giving out merit money with acceptances…

@anon145 Thanks. I think a few packages might be put together for exceptional OOS students to encourage them to enroll. Many apply for the Park, but are not selected. Maybe NCSU doesn’t do much of this, but I know some top prospective students who have attended big (and competitive) OOS universities due to the merit packages that were put together for them. It wasn’t due to their socioeconomic status either. My son’s in-state flagship school is excellent too… so it’ll work out either way. Our state doesn’t have the two flagship schools like North Carolina does. I’d just like his hard work to afford him some options, but OOS tuition costs can obviously limit those options. Thanks again for the note, and I’m glad your son or daughter loves it there! We went on a tour to NCSU last year and were very impressed. To anyone else reading this that contributes to this site, I just have to say thank you. This site is full of many impressive prospective, current, and past college students as well as parents and professionals who really know their stuff. You have all helped us out tremendously during this process!

I tried the hack and it didn’t work, but I got an email saying that an unsuccessful login was attempted. Does this mean I have an account but don’t know the credentials? The fact that an email was sent makes me think that they must have me in the database. Maybe accepted? What do you guys think?

@southbend What exactly is wrong with it? Sure, they haven’t formally released notifications, but the accounts are associated with our personal information (FAFSA, Social Security Number, etc). There was also no warning message about logging into your account without having received an email. I would be extremely surprised if they could even legally do anything if they actually wanted. Scholarship recipients were already notified of their accounts as well.

Iscca74 You are right, it is ok for you to check, but caution that asking someone else to check, using some else’s id and asking for payment even if it is 50 cents is dangerous. I worked over 20 years in a university in information security and compliance so just be careful. This a a public forum.

@southbend Ah, that makes much more sense. I was speaking specifically about logging into your own account by using the typical pattern of ID and password. I see now that you were referring to paying other people.

@amaj123 hey I was wondering if you could search me up

Applyncstate Instagram has a picture of the bell tower, saying “Its going to be a great Friday”. Posted around 11:45 am today. Be patient, looks like today is the day. Good luck to all.

Oh thank goodness, I don’t know how much longer I can wait on this…

Let us into changing password, but then gave us an error??

I would think that hacking the system, although innocent, can be seen by Ncsu , and would not look good ethically.

Will you get an email before you get a letter in the mail, for acceptance?

@NCStateAdmission Is there a penalty for this? What is the definition of malicious hacking of the system?

Wolfpaw portal is down - maybe good news of decisions being uploaded for today? We’ll see… good luck all!

@NCStateAdmission I don’t think it was “malicious hacking.” It was a work-around that was discovered to get information a tad bit sooner. Perhaps new student accounts shouldn’t be setup or activated by NCSU prior to the admission letters being sent out.

@southbend Those students used a third party website in order to view their status: actually “hacking” the process.

@NCStateAdmission The checking of one’s status does not seem to warrant the discription of “malicious,” (intending to cause harm). Is there going to be a penalty?

Are we notified of our admission decision via mail or the online portal?

@NCStateAdmission I did this for my son. I shouldn’t have, but I am praying he doesn’t receive a penalty just because I checked. I haven’t even told him I saw his email because I didn’t know if it was valid or not. He doesn’t even follow this site. I am the farthest thing from a hacker. I just thought we were checking emails.
