Experience NC state is the name of admitted student event on 3/23 and other dates. You can email to get access to the schedule and dates but all admitted students should have info by now.
We attended that event last year. It’s more for prospective students considering engineering at NC State. There will be upcoming events for admitted students.
I was accepted to the college of engineering (1480 SAT), but withdrew it so someone who was deferred and really deserves it/wants it can have that spot! Good luck to all – congratulations and keep your head up!
@doctorunusual where did you Accept?
With housing app opening today, if you were accepted to engineering, are you guaranteed getting into engineering village also? I know you have to apply and list it as 1st choice.
is there a specific admitted students day for students admitted to the college of engineering? or an admitted students day for specific majors within the COE?
In the past, there was one day for all majors. There are various sessions to attend and some will be specific to engineering.
We heard from a student at Texas A&M that they give scholarships after kids accept their admission to the university. Has anyone heard this for NC State? For those that already have merit scholarships, did you accept the NC State admission before it came in?
my understanding for both UNC and NC State is that any merit scholarships will be offered with acceptance unless someone is interviewing for a prestigious fellowship they will know about. I am not aware of any incoming merit awards at NC state and UNC only recently established something that is very rare and highly targeted, e.g. out of state kids with super high test scores that will have lots of options but likely not get significant financial aid anywhere. In general, for incoming at NCSU there is no merit money except for what people specifically applied for.
We actually received a merit scholarship after acceptance. It is worth noting that our student was a Park & Morehead scholarship nominee though so I don’t know how much that played into the $.
@Trusting my DD was a Park semi-finalist and didn’t get any $ :((
she has gotten some merit money since, based on grades at ncsu but got zero her first year.
@anon145 If you don’t mind me asking, could you elaborate on the merit money based on grades at NCSU part? Do they give small automatic scholarships based on how you do there? Also was a Park semifinalist for 2023 but didn’t advance and it looks like I won’t be getting any merit $ from NCSU either
@stuckinthefuture typically over winter break there’s a bunch of emails to students and parents get to look through 100s of scholarships and find the relevant ones to apply to. It is not hard to apply to many. Once a student has a mypack account it is easier than clicking now. typically the one she got is ~3500 for both semesters, 1750 each. There was also a college specific one (COE) that was 1,500 for study abroad over the summer she got too. Typically students are more competitive as juniors and seniors than sophomore in our experience. (Fingers cross for $ for next year)
some are crazy specific like being from a marching band from a high school in johnston county, or ROTC from some other random county, some are major specific, some are college specific, etc… but basically just clicking buttons to apply and some require a paragraph or 2. When the real portal is open there are filters to check to click on and narrow scholarships down 1000s of possibilities.
From what I surmise paper science engineering is basically the way to go if you want scholarships. It seems that must have some endowment that they can’t get enough takers for. I think one might be able to go “free” with that one.
I would not be surprised if some of the kids getting merit money are either from a rural county, were in marching band or ROTC or something since there are a lot of quirky scholarships at NCSU of that sort.

80% of paper science and engineering students have a scholarship of $2,500-$3,000 and if you are in COE you will definitely get mailings and emails about scholarships for that major even after you CODA.

I think other COE majors are much more competitive for scholarship money.
My son was accepted EA to COE (chemical intent). OOS, 1510 SAT, 33 ACT, top 10% of his Class, Eagle Scout I am not sure of his unweighted GPA. He has applied for the Paper Science Scholarship. Not something he ever thought about before but looks like an interesting program for those interested in a Chem E degree. Funny thing is my husband and I met working in Paper industry (sales). We are headed down for the NC state Experience April 6 ( we have visited before and is very interested). He was also accepted at VA Tech, Maryland and University of Delaware. We are waiting to hear from Lehigh University before finalizing his decision bur State is in the top 2 right now. I grew up in Blacksburg and have family there so I would love to see him there but they gave $0 merit Aid. Hoping State comes thru and the visit is positive.
@collsander make sure you guys check out the James Hunt library on centennial campus. it is ranked as one of the tops in the world

NCSU has a very good co-op program where students get paid decently and choose which semester/summer they do it in as they mix in with classes (semester co-op/no school) in later years. A lot more to do around raleigh/Durham than blacksburg as I understand it.
Also, COE has a ridiculous number of engineering majors for undergrads, more than anywhere else I’ve looked at so there’s a lot of choice if ChemE interest changes.
@anon145 Thank you. We did visit campus last year however we did not tour the Centennial campus which is the main reason for our return. Raleigh/Durham is appealing to him. We currently live in NJ near PA so it is pretty rural. The appeal of Blacksburg is I have a large number of family members and friends who live there. Our younger son is currently a Sophomore in HS and once he graduates my husband and I are moving to Charlotte so we would be equally as thrilled if he chooses NCSU. Lehigh is only 30 minutes from our house so even if he is accepted I think he would rather be a bit further away from home.
@collsander It sounds like your son has just about the same interests and college choices as mine. My son applied to Delaware, South Carolina, VA Tech and NC State. He’s interested in ChemE but was really intrigued by the 4.5 year Paper Science/ChemE Double major option at NC State. The abundant scholarship, internship and co-op opportunities are a huge plus. He was accepted at UD and VA Tech but deferred EA at NC State so we’re on hold until the end of March for his decision. He’s definitely most interested in NC State but we’re headed to VA Tech on April 6 for another visit in case his NC State acceptance falls through. Even though UD is a good and less expensive in-state option for us, my son’s not in love with Delaware for a variety of reasons.
@DoubleDelDad we will be at VT on the 7th. We are headed to NC state on the 6th. I love VT. most of my family cousins, Nieces and nephews attended VT (I am a Univ. of TN grad and my husband MD) and many work for the university so I would love to see him there. The campus is beautiful. My son too is not in love with UD but hasn’t ruled it out yet. Who knows maybe they will end up in the same Chem E program. The paper Science program is very appealing for sure. He is seriously considering it if the scholarship come thru. Best of Luck to your son!!!
@collsander pls post your reviews of VT and NC. Would love to hear more on the trip
