I’ve talked to the UHP, and the honors decision will be out feb 19th
Does anyone know if it’s just certain departments that are releasing deferred decisions early??
but maybe they are saying that as a “just in case.” they might come out sooner. thats just what the official office said
I may be an outlier but I’m in at NCSU and UNC and will be committing to NCSU
Nope, not an outlier. Same boat here!! Just a lot of students think UNC is more prestigious or was their dream school. Tons of factors on major, culture, campus feel, etc. BOTH are great options for the right student.
Anyone hear about the Shelton scholarship this week? “All applicants” were supposed to hear the first full week of February, but no word so far…
Didn’t hear here yet either. I didn’t realize how few were selected so it’s probably a long shot for my daughter!
Arg! I guess we’ll just have to be patient!
Hey guys not trying to hijack this thread but I’m a current NCSU student and happy to answer questions to the best of my ability! I wish I had known about this website when I was applying and first accepted so I’m happy to help out.
What’s your major?
I’d be curious what other colleges you got in to and how you selected NCSU. Also, are you in state or out of state?
Hey! I’m a business admin major and will be declaring my concentration at the end of this year( either marketing or finance). I’m also minoring in entrepreneurship and journalism!
Hey! I am an in state student and I was also accepted to HPU, UNCW, UNCC, CofC, ECU, UGA, and was waitlisted at UNC with guaranteed transfer. I was really between HPU and NCSU because I knew I didn’t want to transfer into UNC and although I love UGA it was out of state so a lot more expensive. The other schools were not as much what I was looking for. I liked HPU a lot but ultimately NCSU gave me the holistic college experience I was looking for. HPU is also on the smaller side. At NCSU I have amazing professors, got into a well known school and business program, have a great size campus, incredible school spirit, a million of opportunities and clubs, and I’m also a member of greek life so I liked having that opportunity as well! I like that I have the many options of a bigger school, but most of my professors still know my name and I have varying class sizes which is a nice mix. We also have tons of traditions and I think that really adds to the school spirit and campus pride!
Thank you so much for commenting! Have you heard any info on what NCSU will look like in the fall? I’ve heard that dorms are going back to double occupancy. Have they said anything about in-person classes resuming? As a business major, how many (if any) classes have been in person this year? As a business major, did you get to start taking business classes right away as a freshman?
Of course! For next fall I know they are trying to bet back to normalcy, but they don’t think everything will be perfectly normal again. I have heard that they are planning for dorms to be double occupancy, but if things get worse that could obviously change. I know they want to have more students in person next fall but I also know many classes will continue to have remote options for those who prefer. As a rising junior I’ll be choosing my classes for next fall soon and then I can 100% confirm the amount of in person options.
Last semester I had only 1 class in person before everything moved online and anyone on campus was sent home. This semester I have no in person classes, but all my courses are live on zoom. It definitely depends on your major and the class sizes. I have friends majoring in architecture and bio just to name a few who have in person classes. For business the intro classes are large (100-300 people) so during the pandemic its much harder to have that in person vs an English course with only 15-25 students.
As a freshman you do start taking basic, intro level business courses that are required for every business concentration right away. In the fall of freshman year every business major takes Intro to business processes and M100 which is specific to being a business major. Also unless you have AP calc credit you take business calc as well. Then in the spring you take microeconomics and financial accounting. If you are ahead on credits you are free to add more intro level business courses.
I would say compared to last semester, campus seems more normal already. I don’t think masks are going anywhere anytime soon but people are back to sitting in Talley student center, walking around everywhere, and hitting the gym. I think if things do not get worse campus should appear even more normal by fall.
Thanks for your response - especially the business-specific info!
I’m very hopeful that things will continue to move toward a better “normal”. It’s a lot to consider when weighing out-of-state options with NCSU. No one wants to sit alone in a dorm room 24/7, no matter where it is! Remaining virtual for large lecture classes makes sense. I’m glad to hear accounts of students becoming more active on campus.
Best of luck to you!
Thanks for the UHP update. I’m assuming they did not mention hour of release, but 4pm seems like the norm?
Anyone have info on when Honors program decisions are coming out?
I saw on their site that it won’t be until April. I think it was on the housing site as well under the honors village info.
Probably around 4 I’d think. I was listening to their Facebook live on Monday night and they mentioned that honors decision for early action is expected to come out sometime in February (rumor has it sometime around the 17th?). Just thought I’d keep y’all updated on that, too.
