NCSU College of Design

Has anyone been invited to the Admissions Review Day for the College of Design yet?

My daughter’s status online changed this week. The message was that General Admissions considers her academically viable (not the exact words) and that her credentials and portfolio are all being passed along to Design Review, and that a decision will be made on whether or not to invite her to the late Jan. Admissions Rev. Day, or kick her back to Admissions for consideration in her second choice major. So I assume it could still go either way? We are hoping she gets the email in late Dec. with the invite? Do you fee like you are at the same place? I am curious!

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, my daughter’s status: ‘Design Review’
We’ll be waiting anxiously. Good luck to your daughter.

Should be communicated in an email before Christmas, I believe I read that somewhere.

What is your D’s first choice major (studio-based?)?

Yes, D’s 1st choice major is studio-based: Art+Design. How about your D’s?

Graphic Design – competing for a few precious spots, have you seen those numbers? I’m pretty sure my D is still not quite aware how small the classes are they accept in the studio-based majors.

My daughter received email yesterday and has been invited to attend the “mandatory Admission Review Day” on Jan. 29th. Art + Design faculty will conduct mandatory interviews. She must bring a hard copy of her Design essay and a portfolio (15 pieces max).

klinger - Congratulations to your D! My daughter was very happy, as she received the same email! Do you have any idea how many students are invited to the interview?

SnlMom -
No inside scoop here. I have no idea how many are invited. All I know is what the website tells of current enrollment, and for Art + Design it says 80 in the whole undergraduate program (Wow!..pretty small).
My D knows it is very competitive, but thankfully she does not have her heart committed to NCSU, so much as she does to Studio Art itself. So if she does not make it, there are other exciting options that may please her.

Uh oh, my D hasnt received any email in Dec. Other than the happy holidays from Wolfpaw@ncsu.edu…what a process. congrats to your kids. not her first choice school but it looks like a great program if you can gain admissions to a studio based major.

kbiresearch-
If you have not heard anything yet, I would say that there could still be hope. It’s possible that the College of Design is waiting to see if any invitees are withdrawing from consideration so that those interview spots can be offered to others on the list.

Actually, status changed late yesterday back to “Under Review” (from formerly “Design Review”). I’m thinking she might not have made the cut w/ the College of Design and it’s gone back to admissions for consideration in her second choice major. But maybe I’m reading too much into it. Your comment re: invitees withdrawing is definitely something we’ll keep in mind. Thanks!

My son’s wolfpaw still says Design Review and we haven’t heard anything either. He applied for the architecture program.

I’m disappointed…I’m feeling now like we won’t hear anything until March now. I’d say, ChrisPsMom, that Chris still has a chance for the invite, as your status still reads “Design Review.” As our status has changed this week, I’m sure the offices must still be open and could still send out emails thru tomorrow.

D had applied to graphic design. She got online notification today of acceptance to her 2nd choice major. We will definitely consider it! Good luck to all you design applicants!

Cograts to your D! It must feel good to have a positive decision under your belt.

congrats kbirsearch, what’s her second choice major?
Two members of my family are NCSU grads (DH and S1). Both loved their four years there.
S1 ('09 grad) misses State and Raleigh so much. He would do it over again in a heartbeat.
Hope your D will still consider NCSU.

She was accepted to college of Mgmt – undecided(this is what the acceptance letter says). We are hearing great things about NCSU and plan to visit in the next month or so. We are from Boston and my brother is relocating his family to Raleigh next month…an added attraction for us heading to NC, and my D could stay close to some cousins…

SNL – She actually already has several acceptances, so we are feeling pretty good – still waiting to hear from 6 or 7 more schools, although now that she’s into NC State, she cares a bit less about some of the others’ responses.
