Just wondering if there are more than two kinds of letters, one that accepts you and one that says you will be considered as an alternate if there is an opening after the initial accepted group responds.
Did anyone get a flat out denial? I understand there were 4000 applicants for 300 spots. if everyone that was not invited to the Honors/Scholars College got a letter saying they would be notified as an alternate, that would be 3700 alternates… getting in unlikely. Anyone know the answer to this?

I don’t know the direct answer, but per the 2019-2020 annual report it said 222 first year students participated in honors and 436 in Scholars. My D was invited to Scholars not Honors, but Honors letter mentioned being an alternate. That didn’t surprise me given was invited to Scholars and I know of other universities that have Honors and Scholars that have pulled students up from the Scholars pool if Honors spots became available.

Are you saying there are students who were not invited to Scholars that also received letter saying they are alternate for Honors (vs an alternate for Scholars if spots open there if a Scholars student is moved up to Honors)?

Yes my twin daughters are alternates for Honors but I assume not Scholars since we received no communication regarding that.

Did anyone who applied to honors simply not hear anything at all yesterday?

Is getting into Scholars better than Honors?

Other way around. Honors is considered to be better than Scholars.

Thanks for clarification.

Looking at UHP Admissions information, it say students have to meet 2 of 3 criteria to be considered so maybe everyone who met criteria but not selected is considered to be in the alternate pool (sort of like the large general university admit waitlists of 2,000+ where 20 eventually get in off the list)?

You still had to apply with a separate essay even if you met the criteria. Only those that applied would be on a waitlist.

Sorry I didn’t specify that, but yes those 3700 or so who applied but not already selected.

Historically, when has NC state released its financial aid packages for EA students?

Just got a notification from NC state to make sure my DS’s FAFSA form is done. Was wondering if this was sent to all deferred and rd applicants? Do they notify you if they download the FAFSA like other schools? Do they do this before acceptance?

That was sent to everyone. My son was accepted back in January, his FAFSA shows up in the system already and he still received it. So, not a sign. Best of luck to you and your son!

Hi all,

My son was Accepted tp NC State. We are from GA and my son has applied to several SEC schools. He has received some very generous merit aid from these schools. Plus, we have the hope scholarship in GA for in state schools. Does anyone have a ballpark on merit aid? It almost appears that my son would have to apply for a specific scholarship in the major he wants to pursue. I cant find a lot but looks like maybe 5k tops.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks

Look at the common data set. Not much merit given. A lot more given for athletes in scholarships on average.

Has anyone else still not received their financial aid? Thats going to be my deciding factor so I’m super eager to know lol

I still haven’t. I’m about 30 minutes from the school so I assume they just haven’t mailed them yet.

I was on a call last week with my son for accepted students and they said financial aid and scholarship information won’t go out until the 3rd week of March.

Do the also notify by email, or only USPS?

There’s a spot for financial aid on the my pack portal so I assume it will be there too.
