“ UPDATE: The university will be closed on Friday, January 21 due to anticipated inclement weather. All campus visits have been cancelled. We hope you reschedule soon!

Well, one more week then. Just try to enjoy this weekend, folks! Stay safe and healthy; if we do something fun or relaxing, it’ll go by quick.

No my twins are still there. Hope that means NOTHING!

Couldnt agree more!! Life is hard enough! Why the games! Did your older son apply to Georgia and get in? And if so did he get into NCSTATE?

I was actually able to talk to an admission officer from UNC…who actually called me back. I never nor my son, had that experience with NC State…

I have anothor question…how can they compare grades if a student elects (or has to) report their grade as a pass fail (due to COVID) versus a student who submits their grade?

Using the same magic that they do to compare a kid who submits an SAT/ACT score versus one that doesn’t (i.e., tea leaves or voodoo - hahaha). If I were an admissions committee, I would be more impressed with having the scores and the grades than no scores and a pass (because why are there no scores and only a pass, versus a solid grade?) but apparently not submitting these things has no impact.

exactly! It also affects class rank. I have no idea how my son’s school is doing class rank if they are comparing pass/fail versus somebody that submits a grade.

Older son is at University of Maryland, younger son that is a senior, got accepted early to UGA, South Carolina, App State and UNCW so far. Waiting on NC State and UNC, fingers crossed for both!

I hope common sense prevails on this…because there is no way a student would NOT submit a grade (if choise were given) if they got an A.

choice…

Agreed! That’s why I have a hard time believing they don’t factor it in. How can you not? All the kids who submitted SAT scores would only do that because they were good. Does that mean the ones who didn’t would have had bad scores or weren’t able to take the test? No real way of knowing for the admissions councelor. Seems like a problem to me.

Though there are places across the country where the kids could not take the sat. But I think this past fall it was not a universal problem. It is messed up.

anyone hear anything???

Same for mine! Minus App. Didnt apply. Got into South Carolina and Tennessee. Georgia is THE only thing that makes me think they have a great shot at UNC and State but its all such a silly game. :frowning:

My husband and I are UNC Pharm graduates in the late 90’s. When I was applying to UNC as a freshman (early 90s) I was invited to a Math and Science Day on Columbus Day. We met with professors, had a private tour, and our parents had lunch in Granville. One professor told us, if you are invited here you are already in. Told us at that time UNC used a formula to calculate admission. My oldest is class of '22 UNC but nothing science or math.

It makes sense if NC State uses a formula…because they had 31,000 applications in 2020. There is no way NC State admission officers can look at each individual student…none…

Anyone hear anything or get anything? I still have the withdraw button and portal looks the same.
