I’m currently a rising high school senior and I’m looking at what would be the best place to go. My parents agreed to take me on college tours and I’ve seen all the campuses and looked up all the information regarding the schools and I love them all. My major is going to be Biology as I plan to go to Medical School after Uni (I wanted to go to UNC, but I’m afraid in 3.9 GPA and ACT Score (28) wouldn’t match the standards). ECU and UNC Charlotte are my safe schools if I don’t get accepted in to NC State or Clemson, but I’ve always wandered what would be the better school academically wise for Biology and socially/party wise?
As for Clemson and NC State, these 2 are my dream schools. I live in NC, so tuition would be cheaper for NC State (plus I like the location of it over the location of Clemson) but there are somethings I like about Clemson better such as diversity (higher population of other races). I’m torn and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations.
If you seriously want to go to medical school, then you are best off saving funds for medical school. Scholarships for medical school are few and far between. I went to law school. My wife went to medical school. We both, only, have professional school debt. That debt, at the time, could be paid out for nearly thirty (30) years. Think about that for a second. The cost of your medical school tuition could be with you until you retire. My law school tuition certainly will (but, then, it afforded me the ability to do the job that I do). Carrying unnecessary undergraduate debt with professional school debt is a poor financial decision.
The best thing you can do in college (any college for that matter), is do well in Biology and medical school track classes and prepare for the MCAT. Keep your costs down. NC State is an excellent STEM school (Clemson is, too), but if you are in-state at NC State, go there. There is nothing wrong with ECU or UNC-C. Remember, your eyes are on medical school. A Bachelor’s degree is but the next step on that road. Don’t make it an expensive one.
