I have some questions about the NCAA Clearinghouse.

D2 is a HS junior, two-sport athlete (basketball and soccer). She is not at the Div 1 level in either sport; Div 2 is a possibilty in soccer, less so in basketball. (It would depend on the specific program.)

The attributes that she thinks she wants in a college (big school, big-time football to watch) lend themselves to a Div 1 school where we know she won't be able to play. But she's not sure she wants to end her playing career, so we're keeping an open mind about finding slightly smaller schools where she might be a fit for one of the teams.

I know Div 3 schools do not use the NCAA Clearinghouse. But if she gets some interest from a Div 2 school, when will we need to register her with the Clearinghouse? How long does it take? Will coaches "engage" with her if she is not registered?

There should be no problem with academic eligibility, I'm just wondering about the timing.

Coaches will talk with her even if she is not registered with Clearinghouse. You can’t finalize your registration until after senior year grades are sent in but I would register this summer ( after junior year) if you think it is a possibility that she may play. It is a fairly easy process. I’ve enclosed a link that has info on the process.

Thank you. It’s good to know that we can wait until this summer to register. By then she will have been to a few soccer showcases and will know whether or not there are any Div 2 coaches interested, and we’ll have visited a couple colleges and hopefully have a better idea of what D2 wants to do.

If you want to play D3, you still need to register in the NCAA clearing house, at least thats my understanding.
There are plenty of very good D3 schools and there are not so good D1 schools too.
Another option for your D could be to play club. Alot of the big schools have club teams that are competitive. i have a friend who has 2 D at Northeastern and they both play club. They travel and practice and even have play offs.

I registered with clearing house in the summer of my junior year. Your basically just paying a fee for a number. You need to be registered with clearing house before you can go on any official visit and you need to supply the coach with your clearing house number (this is only for d1,2 not div3)

You do not need to register with NCAA Clearinghouse for Division III schools. My D1 is a junior playing collegiate soccer at a DIII school and has never registered.

This is from the website I refer to in post #3:

“Division III does not use the Eligibility Center. Contact your Division
III college or university regarding its policies on admission, financial
aid, practice and competition.”

My D will be playing D3. She never finished her NCAA registration; we never sent a junior or senior transcript in. Her college coach has never asked about her NCAA eligibility.

^ I checked the website. It does look simple, but costs $60. Not a lot of money in the broad scheme of things, but more than I like to throw away if there’s no need for the Clearinghouse. That’s why I was glad to learn that it can wait until this summer (after junior year).
