The games were exciting, sold out (Homewood Field at JHU), on ESPN for the first time (usually on ESPN-U or another hard to find channels). UNC is the champ. Congrats to women for playing on the big stage like the men. On Friday, UNC was down 7 goals to Northwestern going into the 4th quarter and scored 9 goals, the final 4 by the same player. It was unbelievable.
In keeping with our recruiting discussions and left over Covid recruiting, there were a lot of players on all the teams who are 5th year seniors or grad students, lots of transfer students from other top schools (ND to UNC, Penn St to BC) so that’s still happening. It was one player’s birthday today - she’s 24 and still playing. My daughter was just 21 when she was done. I think this top heavy team thing will continue until the last sophomore plays that extra year of eligibility.
A number of players, and coaches, will be playing in the World Championship this summer. My daughter is also playing and I’m afraid it is going to be like a high school team playing the Green Bay Packers! These women are so good. The USA and Canadian teams will be All Stars and dominate.
Those poor referees, having to run up and down the field and keep up!
