I Am Indian . I Am Reperesnting My Country In The World School Forum This Year In 2006. 1 Out Of Three People Going. Will This Get Me Into An Ivy?
Please Give Me A Concrete Answer

ha i would sleep with adcoms to get in ivies

Where is The World School Forum being held?

@karthikeyan: Why is the first letter of EVERY word in capitals?

Yes and no.

That alone won't get you into an ivy. You need all sorts of stuff, excellent grades, good sat scores, ec's ....

Its In Australia This Year. I Have All The Other Stuuf

Exactly what is the criterion for getting delected to this World School Forum? Could you show me any on-line links to it?

That is very difficult to say.

Those who apply to the ivies have one way or another great CVs. Some have climbed Mt. Kalimanjaro, taught english to street kids in Cambodia, represented their respective countries in international olympiads, international debates, forums, whatnots.

The only concrete answer that you'll get will be in the acceptance/rejection letter.

Just apply and hope for the best.

Karthikeyan,

Just by representating your school in a world forum will not get you into an Ivy League for sure. I am an international counselor for Indian students in Hyderabad and help students get into Ivy Leagues. Although you providing this information to the Ivy's at the time of application would give a strong foot-hold but it will definitely not guarantee admissions into them. You need the right GPA's, high SAT scores (I am talking of a score which would be 2000+), Great Statement of Purpose/Essays and Letters of Recommendations and offcourse proof of financial sponsorship by either your parent or any chosen sponsor. All this would definitely put you in the ivy's not to forget you undertaking competitive exams like AP's.

if you havent yet learnt how to capitalize properly you sure as hell wont be going to an ivy.

sixsixty stop making those comments about anyone based on a simple post he made and those capitalization made..

for a new member at CC being formal and weird is very normal and that doesn't entitle ppl to remark so offensively.

well we know nothing about the applicant.. who knows he cud be another admitted student at MIT or any IVY such as Harvard..

since when did we start following proper grammar rules at CC

SM

yeah SM. If people had judged me by my posts, I sure as hell would have been labelled ineligible for even Community colleges.

heehh ASP so true .. but well things have changd much and for the better of it i must say .. and well now most of those discussions are deeply hidden in the cc archives .Also ur post history wud no longer have them ( 500 post history rule)

SO forget them i would say..

and well the argument holds for sixsixty

SM

Karthikeyan,

I would add one more item to Abha's list. Do not assume that if you get in to ivies, you will be given great fin aid. Be realistic in your expectations. India has very large pool of qualified applicants.

Karthikeyan,

Advice Nr 1: Don't give a shEEt about sixsixty.

Advice Nr 2: Show to any IVY that you have enough money to attend their university and be sure that you will get a lot of thick, fed-ex mailed envelopes containing acceptance letters from any U.S. Uni you wish.

Advice Nr 3: If you don't have enough money to attend the whole university, than don't apply only to the IVYs. Apply to some universities which can be classified to the top 50. Even though you may consider those univeristies below your potentials, it is worth starting in univeristies like Lehigh or Colgate and end in universities like MIT and Harvard for master.

Advice Nr 4: Don't apply only to the U.S. Recently they have not been "nice" with intl, so don't think you have any safty school in the U.S.

Advice Nr 5: If you don't get accepted from U.S. Universities (which i think is improbable considering that you are the first in the school forum in your country which has 1 billion people) don't give a shEEt. Life is full of opportunities and be sure that you will manage to get the right ones

kartikeya i alone know around 13 from my school who wil apply to ivivies and they are al qualified as hell but then all ivy wannabes are .
so thre is competititon galore

but then you never know who will get lucky BTW that participation is valuable asset but wont be as important as to decide your chances

Simba is right in such terms. India does have a large pool of qualified applicants and getting financial aid right from the beginning is very difficult. I am from an Ivy I never got financial aid from the very beggining. Got only only after first sem.
