@pastelblue My city is broken up too. My friend is from the same town as me and she lives in CD13. I live up on the Virginia border.

@ewaters3493 They compare it to your schools average from last school year. I went on a private tour that my county set up. They said as long as you got 100 points in each section above your school average, you should be fine.

@Flaracos @adambowker98 I realize this was 2 days ago, but I’ve been really busy with the start of my new semester, so I’m catching up now. I go to an Early College, so we start our semesters when the colleges do. I have to go to school the first week of August, but I get out the first week in May. Flaracos said that 2300 was average, or something similar to that. I’ve always heard that a 1500 was average. Don’t worry, Adambowker98, I got a 1780 (CR610, W610- 10 on essay, M560), also. The whole point of the SAT, for NCSSM at least, is to see that you excel above the average in your school. I did 101 points better in the Math, 166 in CR, and 157 in Writing than my school’s average. If you guys are wondering your schools averages its on DPI’s website.

Its this link and you click on “SAT Report 2013 (Districts and Schools Listings Only).” An excel document comes up with all of the schools. Hope this helps! I compared mine to the 2013 results, I think that is what they will use.

I submitted my application yesterday and now I’m kind of regretting not applying to online because I just found out my school offers Physics C???

Ugh I’m still not done with the essays… And midterms are this week!

We have finals this week! ugh. I wrote all my essays over winter break due to my parent’s urging but good luck with yours. What are you applying for?

Thanks! And I didn’t necessarily state 2300 as the average…maybe for the Ivy League, but it doesn’t matter unless you really screwed up on your GPA.

@loltired I talked to an admissions officer awhile back and he told me, “We will allow those who are accepted to NCSSM Residential appeal to become an Online Student…”

Oh wow, that’s nice! I guess I also won’t have to do the 10 essay things if I end up doing that… sigh ugh I want to go and I don’t want to go and I don’t even know if I’ll get in… the struggle

@loltired That’s how I felt. I decided to apply just in case I won’t regret it or change my decision.

Mmm well best of luck to the both of us, I guess, and to everyone else in this thread!

Are you guys applying to SVSM?

I was going to but decided not to.

Turned it my application! I’m from CD13, and I got a 2200 SAT score. I also have lots of extracurricular activities and community service activities. I also have a long list of math achievements including AIME, duke, Wake tech, mathcounts, AMC 8/10/12, math league, math madness, mandelbrot, etc. I got an 800 Math and like 700 each in writing and CR, and was wondering if anyone has any clue how bad CD13 is?

I also played classic soccer and injured my ankle right after making classic and had to overcome it that season and coming right off an ankle injury was able to make it back onto a CASL team the next season and still performed very well helping out our team a lot (I put details in the app).

I also have won a lot in speech and debate.

My SAT is around 200-300 more than my school’s average.

My school doesn’t do GPA’s but I have all A’s except for a B+ in history last year.

Awh good luck! Just wondering, but would you recommend taking the AMC 10 or 12 if I’m in Calculus BC and I really just want to qualify for AIME. I’m not like the most creative when it comes to solving math so I struggle a bit with AMC problems but I know the qualifying score for 12 is lower…

Also, wow your school must be really good because my school’s SAT average is 500 points below yours LOL

@loltired in 8th grade I took the 10 and got a score of like 110 which qualified me and wasn’t too hard. In 9th I took the 12 and got around a 95 and qualified (cutoff was like 75-85 I don’t remember exactly). This year I’m taking the 12 since it’s way easier for me. I have a tendency to sometimes make silly mistakes, but since I know how to solve all types of problems on both 10 and 12, 12 gives me more room for error. If you feel confident in your abilities take the 12, otherwise the 10 isn’t horrible. Don’t let the “120” qualifier for the 10 scare you as the top 2.5% is usually way lower than that (10-15 points). I can’t post all specifics as I’m on my phone currently I’d love to tell you all the specifics when I get home from a place I had to be (sci Olympiad practice at friends house).

As far as SAT, I can’t say my school cuz it sacrifices my somewhat anonymity but it’s not enloe, but you’d surely recognize why the score is so high if I told you what school it is.

@loltired just read you’re in Calc BC - go for 12 for sure

Alright, thank you so much. That was really helpful!

Does anyone know how competitive their boy’s soccer, baseball, and basketball are? I know soccer is competitive, basketball not so much. But how about baseball?

Your SAT score is compared to the average of your home high school. To get the maximum number of points in this area, you need to score 100 points above your school average in each section.
