NCSSM Class of 2018 - Future Applicants

Greetings. I’m new here to College Confidential, just discovered this thread.

How has everyone’s application been? What challenges have you faced?

My counselor just got the eval in this morning, and my wheel is complete! Now, time to stress out about other things. Will anyone be at HOSA states this year?

@AJM777 My Discovery Day part is filled in, but I went on Feb 27th. I think it took mine a week or so? Worry not!

@dancingdisaster I’ve noticed you have a blog for the School of Science and Math. May I partake?

Hi,

I’m from CD 6 (Greensboro area) and I attend the Early College at Guilford. If anyone else from ECG is here, hi!

I really really want to go to NCSSM. It has been a goal for me since middle school.

I got a 800 on the math section of the SAT. My total score is above 2000, but it’s not great. Also, I don’t know how well my recommendations are, but the teachers said if they agreed to write one, it’ll be generally positive.

My main concern is that there are 12 other applicants from my school alone and most of them have perfect GPA’s and crazy SAT scores in the 2200 and 2300’s (superscored). Do I have a chance in getting in? I really want to go!

Thanks for you time!

I read that admissions are based on congressional districts, is it the CD of residence or the CD of the high school someone attends? I thought it would be based on residence but wanted to see if anyone could give me a link to where this was indicated. Thanks.

@yearstogo it is CD of residence. I unfortunately don’t have a link, but my school account records me as CD13 and my old high school was in CD4.

@Ranulphus “My total score is above 2000, but it’s not great.”

A score above 2000 is good for this school. You have a good chance.

@yearstogo It’s by the Congressional District of your residence, I believe.

people who are still posting stats at this point, can you not just wait 2 weeks

I’m just EXCITED to have completed the entire process! This really does give us early practice for college admissions and scholarship applications. I hope everyone is doing well and trying to relax a bit

I just think it’s ironic that the first day of spring is the coldest day of the week

tbh you should relax your socks off. put ssm at the back of your mind until results come out. lol and stop visiting college confidential.

13 more days!

Don’t remind me

@awkwarduck how much do they weigh extraccurics? I heard there a lot of people applying from a local public school that are taking bc calc and stuff, but dont play any sports like I do.

Hey AJM777, extracurriculars are considered. How exactly I’m not sure, because I am not on the admissions board. In short though, everything counts. Sports are generally looked upon favorably, I’d think.

I’m so happy to be out on Spring Break! Don’t get me wrong…I’m still busy but I can relax a little bit more. I have an interview today at the hospital. I have to prep for an up-and-coming science competition, and I’m going on a short vaca with the fam. What will you all be doing during the break? (if you have one)

I’ll be sleeping and eating. thats what happens after ssm. you go home and sleep and eat.

That’s happened before SSM for me lol all I ever do is sleep and eat though

YOUNG SIR/MA’AM, where did you get those stats? If they’re legitimate, I will start crying in joy. CD 5!!! @smather2018
