@bball828 that is a solid list! I think you’ve got a really high chance. Is anyone else stressing about these essays? They’re so difficult!
I go to the same school as @smathstress, and I am amazed by all the extracurriculars that all the other applicants on this thread have. I could imagine in my wildest dreams having that many solid extracurriculars and being able to balance 3 to 4 AP classes as a sophomore…
@IHaveAMilkChance what district are you from?
It has been about 3 months since I posted! And I’m glad to see more stats and convo up here…Everyone’s stats look GREAT :-). NCSSM is supposed to visiting my school this month. I know a few people who are apply so I guess I will get to see who is really interested. Only 38 more days until the app opens up! Who else is taking the Oct. 3 SAT?
@babyshuf2 I’m taking the October SAT! I’m insanely nervous and if my scores aren’t up to scratch, I’ll be registering for the December one.
@dancingdisaster I know what you mean! I’ve mostly been practicing my M and CR but I’m a little worried about the Writing section. I got the Official SAT Online Course thru the college board, which seems helpful. Either way, I’m with you on registering for the Dec. test, just in case.
I will be glad when the system opens and we get out hands on those ESSAYS!
@smathstress You can find the SAT score information for NCSSM, the districts, and all NC schools at this site: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/reporting/sat/2015
I think that is what you are looking for.
@babyshuf2 The app is open! I started working on my essays wound early August, but plan of intensively writing them during winter break. Of course, we cannot submit the application until October.
@dancingdisaster Thanks for letting me know! I will go check it out. For some reason, I thought it was the app for last years applicants. Either way, I’m going to CFNC to check right now…lol!
@dancingdisaster Thanks again! I was able to get to them. They are very similar to the ones I have been practicing…lol. I have been keeping “NCSSM Essay Notes” since Jan. It is basically ideas and thoughts that I have for my essays. Stuff I might want to include or highlight. I really want to do well with the essays!!!
@babyshuf2 How did you get access to the essays? I’m trying to find them on CFNC, and I’m lost lol!
@Terminator3136 After you log into CNFC.org, click “Apply to College”. Then click on “College Applications” and scroll down to ‘start a new application’. You will need to find NCSSM. You can search or just browse alphabetically. Select the school and enter the application. This should lead you to the Introduction for the application. Once you are inside of the application, use the the “Skip & Jump to:” drop down box to get to the applications on “Screen 9” (it won’t take you there just by clicking on it so use the drop down box). You will see the essays there…I hope that helps!
@babyshuf2 Thank you so much! I hope we can all get in somehow!
Has anyone been to Smath’s Campus?
@Terminator3136 No probs! I hope we all can get in too.
@Pheeziks I have been to the campus multiple times for science competitions since 6th grade. I also spent 2 weeks there this summer for an intensive academic program. I enjoyed staying in the residential halls but I did not like having to clean and do chores I learned so much about the campus and meet many current NCSSM students/staff. At the end, I didn’t want to leave! :x
@babyshuf2 That’s awesome! I was wondering how far away are the dorms from the class halls (I tried to make some judgments on Google Earth but that didn’t really work :)) ). Also do you know how many classes (max) per trimester you can take? I know you have to take five core classes each trimester (except the 1st trimester which is 4 core classes) but is it possible to take 6,7,8 classes total?
@babyshuf2 We do have housekeeping Sunday through Thursday so you will have to clean and do chores. You’ll also have work service for 3 hours a week.
@Pheeziks Yes you can take 5 cores each trimester including the 1st trimester if you wish to. Your elective classes do not count towards this total so you can be like me and be taking 5 cores and 2 music electives. I would really advise against taking too many classes as it does add up fast and can get quite stressful.
Also as for the residence halls, if you live on the male halls you are a bit far away from most things as Hunt, which houses the majority of male students, is sort of far away from everything else. Many of the female halls are located on the same floor and very close to the classrooms unless you live on Royall. Basically it really depends on what hall you’re on. In the end it doesn’t matter too much as we aren’t a huge school but can make the difference especially when you’re rushing to class.
